I'm sorry but Jack Black sucks as a musician. I can't see how anyone can listen to that dude sing. He's way more obnoxious than in his movies because he actually takes himself seriously. Those Hollywood douchebags suck. Does that guy actually sell his Tenacious D records?

I agree, he's as corporate Hollywood as they come, one second lecturing people the next second in a C-grade Romantic Comedy.
He also plays himself in every film, his acting ability is very slim, kind of like Seth Rogan.

Jack Black is the pop cultures "bad rock star dude" so non rockers like him as he's approachable and not very complex.
In the same way Seth Rogan is easily accessible to 14 year old weed smokers.

I can't say much on his playing but School of Rock was basically "rock culture" funnelled through modern political correctness and Holywood.

He's richer than I'll ever be even though I'd happily out shred/sing him anyday

Anyone who thinks JB takes himself seriously is just missing it. And the D isn't for you. That's cool. I dig the D. Outside of my wife Jack is probably my favorite singer right now. And I couldn't give two shits for anyone who gets huffy over it. Don't get me wrong - I can't stand the school of rock shit - it just makes me cringe. But I like TD.

I'm not knocking him for doing what he does. I just don't understand how anyone can listen to him. He's already obnoxious in movies, but at least he's funny. The thing is that his vocals are grating on the ears, and his covers aren't any good. Despite that, for some reason, there're apparently a lot of people who go to his concerts and even buy his CD's. Certainly there are far more deserving musicians, but of course he takes advantage of his celebrity status to cash in on his banal music. The dude just really annoys me, sorry.

It's because music is as subjective as ones taste in food or cars and there's no right or wrong since it's all personal preference.

It's fine to have opinions but musicians we should strive to be open minded and not judge just because something is different than what we like. Where we can't, then just ignore.

The fact that we're discussing it shows how open-minded we are. Besides, you miss the point. It's not about something being different, it's about the stupidity of Hollywood elites.

The presence of discussion in and of itself reveals nothing of open mindedness and I did see the point about "stupid Hollywood elites" but thought the idea of subjectivity was more important than discussing a sweeping generalization about Hollywood elites.

Back to subjectivity... these don't look like the opinions of an open minded artist.

Well, actually I was being kind of a dick because last time I heard Jack Black speak he was on some far left rant which irritated me.

Maybe I should give the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to an emotional rant. I don't hang here much so don't know whether you're otherwise open minded or not.

You should get some help reading because you're clearly not understanding. I clearly said that I just don't want Hollywood assholes pushing their politics on everyone else.
