You know, I also use the stock Sovteks for V2 a lot and they do very well. I just find a little bit extra with the TS.

I'm finding I do like the Tung Sol in V2 of most of the modules though. It also kills in V1 of my seminar head! But the chinese are tough to beat in the GnR man......

Minus the seminar head part (since I don't have one... ). I agree 100%. The TS 12ax7 is my V2 in each of my modules...and V1 in the EG5.

Ditto. I have had bad luck with the TS 12ax7s. Alot of bad ones. The Sovteks always seem durable and they sound good too. I've found that most of the tonal change occurs when the V1 tube is changed. V2 doesn't affect the overall that much to my ears. At least not enough.
The 5751 OTOH, is a must in the lower-mid gain modules. Couldn't agree more.

I agree w/ the Sovtek vs the TS 12ax7. There really wasn't "that much" tonal difference between the two. V1 is where the magic happens. I luckily haven't had issues YET w/ the TS 12ax7s. If I do, the Sovteks will become my V2 tube of choice. Chinese in V1 of GNR / EG3/4..and JP5751 in SL, VX, BMAN, DLX / T/D...definitely FTW.

I didn't like the TS 12AX7s in my high gain modules. In those it is pretty much all JJ ECC83s or ECC803s. I love the 83s, love em. They suit me well, really rich and thick. I still want to order some Chinese tubes.

The 5751s ROCK in the bassman! Wow-Wee! Almost makes the clean channel acoustic-like and the gainy side is clearer! I can turn the gain up more! I found my new best friend in the JP 5751! It also KILLS in V1 and V2 of the head chassis. Much better not separation.
