A guy I know is selling a jay Turser Jt-50, its basically an SG copy. I don't have an SG, so I was considering getting it. I won't be able to try it till next weekend. Guy is asking $100. Just looking for experiences of Jay Turser guitars? I know they are built in china and compete with the likes of Ephiphone, Samick, Agile, etc.

I've played some of there strat copies. really not bad for where there made and price.

The Jay Turser guitars I've had are rough. $100 may be too much.

haven't really played many of them.. but i do see them in a few local music stores. just from eyeballing them the craftsmanship varies a great deal. some look like they're pretty well put together.. others.. not so much. i would also suspect that the electronics would need upgrading as well. if it looks like it's built well and plays well.. i'd consider it.. as long as i was willing to upgrade the pup package it might we worth it.

I do have a SD Jazz and Suhr Aldrich I could throw in, they are just sitting around. I figured the electronics would need to be upgraded. I have seen a few youtube clips of the JT-50 deluxe, sounds pretty good, the pickups seem kind of microphonic, which is not surprising.

Which models have you played? From the reviews I see some rave reviews and some bad reviews, sounds like the JT guitars have a good deal of variation.

they remind me a bit of the mim strats. not all of them were good.. however you might find one that was made on wednesday. ;)

I had a Jay Turser JT220GT just like the one in this link http://www.agileguitarforum.com/showthread.php?tid=8970 for a short while. I thought it was really nice. I had to wax pot the pickups to stop some squealing, after that they rocked. Had I kept it, it could have used a little fret detail work but that's about it. Felt good(for a LP type guitar) and sounded really good. I felt no need to "uprgrade" the pickups. Then again, my main guitar is a $49 POS model first act.

A strat copy, an SG Jr copy. The SG was a train wreck, no way to get intonation right, the strat just acceptable. The electronics in both were suspect. The best thing was the p90 pickup in the SG. I put that in something else and it rocked.

I played a Jay Tursur Flying V a few years ago. It was a complete POS. You couldn't have given it to me.

And realize that I'm not import bashing. I really like some of them. One of my main gigging guitars is a Korean made PRS SE Singlecut.

In the end, play it and see how this particular guitar sounds and feels. If it's decent, then maybe it is worth $100.

Tried out the JT-50. I wasn't able to plug it in, so it wasn't much of a tryout. Anyway, I strapped on the guitar and it was very neck heavy. Overall the guitar felt cheap. Action was high, not much body resonance. I think at $100 is was priced fair, but not for me.

That is an absolute no go guitar for me. Terrible student axes mostly.

A $100 guitar is Going to be just that. (polishing turds) Spend $200 and stalk CL for something better.

Played a bunch at shops around brooklyn. Every one was terrible.

Every one I've ever played was crap.

There's a local guitar store owner here who keeps his vintage guitar collection at his store (for insurance purposes)...Nocasters, Teles, 58 Gold Top, etc. It's about 20 guitars and the value is far north of my house. However, this guy's #1 guitar that he gigs with is a Jay Turser strat. He said he just had a good one come through his store so he kept it himself.

Overpriced Firewood.

You would be better off buying a PRS SE or a Squire. Don't forget the forum's classifieds, some good & cheap ones surface occasionally.
