Maybe, but those Drake/Dagnall trannys slay most other amps at volume imo. Unless you go really boutique and spend a lot of cash...SLOs, Bogners, Wizards, etc. For 800-1K used with a good boost pedal I still say these amps are great tone machines, along with 2203/4s. Something about those vintage amps, newer amps can't get there with some exceptions.

It is exactly my main idea....

So finally I've bought this amp!!
JCM800 2205 50w Head (1986) very amazing amp!! LOUD AMP!!!

In the video some bad notes and bad licks and riffs thru my "new" arrived Marshall JCM800 2205 50w Head (year of production 1986) on the boost channel with some delay in the loop and sometimes a little gain added with a Xotic booster, thru a Nitrocab 2x12 fitted with Celestion Vintage30. The guitar is a Carvin DC600 with stock pickups
All recorded with my phone and all the bass spectrum is gone! But in the room It sounds wicked!

The VooDoo amps site says 82-83 have no gain and channel bleed, they won't mod them unless they remove the whole circuit board and replace it with a custom designed board, so I'd say 84 on, the later the better. I'm looking at an '89 this week...2210

Stay away from pre 1985 models, the best IMO being from 87-90.

Yeah, I've seen several 2205/2210s for sale near me, this one is an '89 and has been to Voo Doo amps already for their "standard" mod, so it has the original trannies, a low end density/resonance control, and some gain tweeks. Looking forward to giving it a spin...

Lot of early amps near me too, but I'm staying away lol

John Norum uses 2205's with KT-88's, not sure what years.

Norum and Schenker used late 80s versions, some info out there had Schenker using early 80s versions but the one he sold to Norum and wanted back was a late 80s. Great and underrated amps imo.

I've a JCM800 2205 1986 and I really love the gain channel! Has anyone tried to push the lead channel with a DOD250 overdrive to have more gain and compression? I've a Xotic Ac in fron of it but It is too much "clean" for me I need something more on a dirty side

I think that sounds great.
