Jim Root Telecaster - Opinions ?

Anybody own or have played the made in mexico Fender Jim Root Telecaster? Opinions? Specifically, I am wondering how it would sound if I swapped out the pickups if I wanted to try something other than the EMGs. I have read some reviews where peole have claimed it is a versatile guitar and others that it is really dark and muddy.

I own two of them from their original release. They are supposed to be dark and muddy, ALA Slipknot. Still have the EMG's in mine and see no reason to change them out.
 
I think it's got a mahogony body and would probably work well with pickups that sound good in LP type guitars if the sound with EMG's isn't wanted. I like teles and will at least try one out if I ever see one. 8)
 
Tele's always are true. Holds tunings really well down to Drop A#.
 
My wife bought me one for Xmas, I really like it.
I dont find mine to be muddy at all, if anything its a tad bright compared to my Lester's and prs's.
Fit and finish is good but I would assume it can be hit and miss.

This is my first guitar with actives and I really dig them so far, thinking about trying a Het Set in it before to long......Keep in mind that if you want to try non active pickups there is no ground wire ran to the bridge and no predrilled hole to run one either
 
I have played a buddy of mine's and really like it. When I find a good deal on one I will buy it for sure. Solid tele I think.
 
Have the ghetto squier version. Mahogany body/belly cut/double hums is what sold me. It's a solid guitar & will keep the bridge pu for now. Have a dimarzio humbuck from hell incoming to replace the neck in order to get closer to a strat sound out of it.

All in all, having a blast playing it & well worth the $329 spent.
 
Definitely the one tele I have any interested in owning... never played one though as I don't think they are made in left handed versions...
 
I don't see the point if you're planning on changing the pickups
There are other H/H Telecasters out there
