One of the worst E.S.I.W.S. to ever sit through is a Schon Arena solo. I hated it even in the 80s. And this is coming from a giant Schon fan

As someone who lived through the 70's and 80's (and is still there in my head :D ) I have to admit that it is tough to listen to any solo instrument play without a musical theme. 3-5 minutes is enough. Unless you are stoned, then its just right. ;)

I remember seeing YES in the early 90's when they got all their current and former members together. There were 2 guitars solos for Rabin and Howe, a Bass solo and i think 2 drum solos.

I saw that tour, Yes Union, Rabin did an acoustic guitar solo and Howe did an electric guitar solo. Why wasn't the other way around???

Been a fan of this guy since hearing him with the tygers of pan tang

I love great solo but hate 30 min or whatever stand alone solo in a concert. Nothing beat a great solo Jam over a song! Sykes is awsome as is tone, always loved him and still!

I was born in 1991 but my room is filled with ADA-MP1s and JMPs and wankery super strats. I'd give my front two teeth to go back to the 80s and experience what the older dudes take for granted! Like pre-fat Yngwie and big haired Paul Gilbert

Yeah long guitar solos are tiring to listen to, but in those days it was a needed break for the rest of the band when they are playing balls out like that for 2 hours.

But drum solos = piss break for me ;)

We went from too-long solos in the 80's, to NO solos now. Sad.

I agree the long guitar solo is done , the 80's is about a lot more than that . Melodic songs with hard rock guitar tone and great guitar playing . I wish music was like that now .

This is awesome. My Son was born in 1994. He says the same exact thing!
Said he wished he was a teen in the 80's. Guess my stories are rubbing off on him.

Great I'm not the only one! My parents hated the 80s stuff so I don't know where I got it from. I end up going to local hard rock and 80s revival shows on my own and usually end up chatting to the veterans about what albums I should check out and guitars etc. I'm even a 1 man 80s rock band:

Since it's so hard to find like minded rockers these days! They much rather play indie garbage or generic rock rock

DUDE! you just made that song your BITCH! YOU've got it man! I can play like that, but my recordings suck, and my singing sux. I play like Jake E. Lee, (In my mind) but I sing like Willie Nelson...no shit.  So, are you finding a market for your music?

Thanks man!!! Everyone has been really supportive of my tunes on RigTalk which is awsome as most of my mates don't get it haha. Jake E. Lee aint a bad thing! I think I'm Yngwie... but then I play the intro to Black Star and want to give up guitar haha. No market so far, I've E-mailed Frontiers with no reply. I'm trying to get a band together, got a killer Yngwie clone guitarist and bassist together so who knows!

fan since tygers
he uli schenker moore schon meniketti luke huff yngwie eddie randy george and as much as i could glean from lane holdsworth gambale which was minimal because they are titans and landau vh and huff tones is basically what my guitar diet consisted of

and this is basically the stew from that recipe
