Ya, hey Cats...

Just wanted to thank you all for those who responded with regards to selling your Sheevs to me. I've got a cat lining one up in Vancouver for me - full meal deal - white anniversary tolex with reverb, NIB. I've yet to see it, it'll be a while, but hey, things change too. I'm in an epic cycle of work right now and am not even able to tune a guitar let alone play one. But once I get settled back home to my abode - and musical pursuits - hopefully it'll be there waiting for me.

If not, for those of you who have offered - expect a PM

Thanks Guys!!
Mo

Back to wanting a Sheevs... Vancouver cat never worked out - or maybe I was out of town too long to know what the hell happened.

Just syain'...

Hey quick question from a noob to this board and to the Bogner world. About to make a trade, saying goodbye to my Roadster and the Shiva was one of the amps I've been looking at. There's a reference to the poor quality of the loop in this thread...is that a commonly held belief? Is the Shiva fx loop subpar?

Yo V,

The Shiva El34 was the other amp I was having musical relations with in the downtown ATL guitar center where the keep the uncut shit.

I like that slightly greasy loud and sweating speakers, power section vibe, the grind but with some even order harmonic highlights that make it feel wider and deeper. Something where the note rings better with a little less gain, and some chimey burn. The EL's really did go there. It was indeed glorious. It is a legendary rock amp but is was Cane Patch syrup sweet with this old ass Tele they had 5K hanging on.

But much to my surprise that day I turned around at a little brown hardwood amp with a cane wicker front. So I went home with a simulclass EQ, verb, loop, MKIIC that smoked the walls.

For the mid gain and cleanish 3D feel the Shiva had the edge. But on that day the evil Mesa grind won out. I only have 2 amps to get now. The 20th XTC and either the Hagen, Herbert, or D Mon.

You tired of that Hagen yet? Maybe get the D Mon and sell me the one you don't like. Hard to go wrong either way.. just sayin.

Awesome... And no, not growing tired of the Hagen. She's a keeper.

I'll have to put some more thought into the Sheevs... I'm still air-humping at the mere thought of it :D

Peace,
Mojo

I had both simultaneously for a little over a year. Im short on time but i'll give a long chime in on the 20th VS original Shiva later tonight. Short version:

Original Shiva with ELs is much more vintage marshall- think jcms- on the dirty with a slight better clean channel. Very mid frequencies. Not low mids. Not high mids. just very MID mids. beautiful really.

The 20th with KTs is a much more balanced distribution of frequencies. Great highs, great mids great lows. The excursion knob in back makes a HUGE difference IMO. worth the extra $$$ alone. That is if you play at home, at band practice and live. If you properly dial it in for each setting it's bliss. But you know this with the xtc ;)

The cleans on the 20th with KTs is very nice. Is it the rich, full, woody original shiva? no. Maybe the el34 version is. But the kt 20th is a bit more....hmm... .modern, crisp.... just ever so slightly less 'organic' as the original. The difference was not worth me keeping the original shiva in the end though. And with the mod button which makes the OD channel MASSIVE and some of the other tweaks....the 20th shiva is just a raging beast of tone.

Can't go wrong with one especially considering they go for as low as 1800 these days. Thats just insane.

First post on here. I tried a Shiva last week at my friend's house and loved the cleans

What about the dirt, crunch, kerrang and higher gain stuff?

And the 20th has tons and tons of gain! More than I would ever use, even for metal.

I've owned a regular EL34 older Shiva. Silver back plate version. Amazing amp, but like the other said, very finicky loop.

I now own a 20th Anny Shiva, and modded mine to accept EL34s.

20th with KT88's: Glassier, stout cleans. Very punchy, not forgiving at all. Drier, harder sounding drive channel. Lots of kerrrrrrang. More aggressive.
20th with EL34's: Hazier, more vintage cleans. Less Glassy presence, but more upper mid chime. Drive channel becomes rounder; brings in the extreme lows and highs a bit, more vintage midrange focus.

To be honest, the 20th Anny Shiva, loaded with EL34s, sounds very, very, very, very similar to a standard one with EL34s. But now you have the options with the mode switch, midrange cut, and of course, fine tuning the bass with the excursion knob on the back.

Mo, you just need to pull the trigger, brother. You'll LOVE it. Stop chewing your nails!

If you buy used, you'll recover your cash if you don't like it (impossible) and decide to move it on.......

DO IT DO IT DO IT

The 20th shiva is a friggin STEAL these days. You can get them for around 1800-1900. Thats insane for what these amps are. Grab one play it and fall in love. like Rob says, if you don't like it, sell it and all you lose is shipping costs....

i had mine looked over and modded for el34 at bogner and i am verrrrrry happy
