Just got a Splawn modded Marshall 1987XL

I traded my Fuchs Frost to Glenn aka sdmf over at TGP. Great guy BTW. Anyway this amp sounds really really good. In all honesty it kills all the Splawn QR's and Pro Mod I played. I was really surprised by this one becuse I wasnt sure Id like it. Has plenty of gain, not overly compressed, lower gain channel with the gain down gets a nice vintage tone, the higher gain channel is nice and thick with rich overtones. Dont need to hit it with my Maxon. Cleans up really well with volume knob and switching to neck single coil on my Tyler. Took pedals like a champ. Loop sounds nice. Put it this way I got two new modules for my Egnater Mod50 and I didnt even get to trying them out last night. I was having so much fun with the Splawn. I hate to say it but it was what I was wanting out of the VHT D60 ei thick tone, loop, footwitchable gain. solo boost.

Well it's subjective Im sure but to me and Glenn who's had a QR too, this amp smoked all the Splawns we had. I am curious though, how a Competion sounds compared to this one.

Man I was totally blind sided by this amp. I'll be honest Im surprised it sounded as good as it did. I hadnt jived with Scotts QR's or Pro Mod's but I wanted to give one of his Marshall mods a try. But that blind siding could have been due to someone feeding my head with negativity who will remain nameless but his board name rhymes with "tetrazini". I should have listened to Glen and trusted his ear.

Did you check those tubes in your busted up ASS FX yet? I know you said the ears on trannies were bent but Id still check because even though it got damaged in shipping the tubes may be still good.
