Just how much volume can the herbert handle?

So im wondering how much you can push the Master volume before it can damage the diezel rlv30s.
Im thinking about bringing up my Master to 12:00 or 1:00 because my band/drummer is so loud! Peter; your opinion..? Or anyone else that plays loud. I dont want to blow my speakers.

With that said, also im interested in anyone else's experience with ch volume vs master volume. Ive heard that ch vol will add compression. Others have said that it will make the tone more harsh. The last thing i want is harshness added. This is why im wondering about pushing the master volume up to as much as 3 oclock to experiment.

Any insight would be awesome!

turn your presence up! seriously it just makes you cut more i dont think your gonna get the cut with presence down on the herbert, use your treble to make the amp darker. I play louder than satan, and my master is just at like 11:30 or so at the loudest in giant venues! i dont think your gonna "hurt" the amp i just think you can achieve the tone you want without the volume your thinking you need. check my reply in the other thread for more suggestions.

Could you write down your settings? That would be :rawk:

Anyone else here crank the piss out of this thing?
Or is it just me that wants to know if the speakers or the amp can handle being turned up to 2:00?

crank it up son dont be scared! :D BUT you will notice the speakers getting harsh when you get stupid loud, if you wanna get insane loud you need another cab in tandem OR throw 2 g 12 k 100 in that cab to mix with the v 30's, i believe several forum guys have had great success with this.

as far as my settings go i assume you mean lead? here ya go...

everything as seen on clock dial

ch 3 gain 2-2:30
ch volume around 2, i like the compression it provides for legato and advanced 2 handed bullshit licks
treble 10-10:30
mid 2:30
bass noon

mid cut on
intenstiy 8:30
level noon

master volume 2 on
as loud as you can take it :D

presence 1:00-2:00 depending on the room
deep noon

and i have mentioned it before but i will say it again, i use the mid cut not as mid cut, i just barely get it on and it seems to do something awesome to the voicing of the amp. i also find a difference between the master volumes as far as tone and find master volume 2 sounds better to me for leads

these settings are based around my anderson drop tops with h3 humbucker in the bridge and h1 humbucker in the neck
hope you guys enjoy

Hey
What do you mean by throwing "2g 12k 100 in the mix"? Adding a second cabinet makes sense especially since those celestions get so freakin harsh. I'm thinking of trying a different cab. Maybe something a lot more warm. I've heard bogner makes a cab that is really warm. I think I just HATE celestions. Especially at high volumes.

i meant replacing 2 v30's with 2 g 12 k100 celestions. my rig is going to consist of v30 loaded cabs ran with g 12k 100 loaded cabs at the same time, for a nice fat blend of the 2 speakers.

I've never really been a fan of V-30's, UNTIL I got a Bogner 4x12. Check it out.

am i the only one who digs v 30's? i even like it in my little 64 deluxe, sounds ferocious with a tele...

Nope, I dig the V30s, I think the Einstein was made with these speakers in mind.

I do however really, really dig it through Greenbacks as well, and through the H30's, and the Alnico Golds...

Maybe I just dig the amp?

Depending on main voltage the output power is up to 230 watts RMS

no, me = V30 fan. :)

interesting also that our settings for CH3 are pretty similar (altough i have more treble and a little less presence)! but seems like this is the setting to penetrate a V30-loaded cab!

I am also a fan of the V30 speakers with both my Herbert and VH4. I prefer the Diezel front loaded with Herbert, as it tightens the bottom just a touch and the Mesa oversized Recto cab with V30s paired with the VH4. The Mesa seems to add a little girth (not that it really needs it) to the VH4's amazing tight and percussive bottom end. I plan on experimenting with a Bogner Uberkab with both in the near future. And Peter, by the way...I've had both these amps for about a month now and I am still THRILLED everytime I plug in. In all honesty I purchased both to do about a week comparision with the intention of keeping the one most favored...I don't think I can sell either one, just really enoying them both...THANKS!!!

i have turned the volume up to 3:00 and man was that loud but it wasnt ear piercing it was a nice warm tone all the way through.
plus it didnt do what my old marshals have done were the bass and mids only go up to a certain point and the highs keep getting
louder. Everything came up together it was sweet.

bato,
ch 2 goes like this
treble- 1-1:30
mids-2:00
bass-1:00
volume-12:30
gain-2:00

+ on for high gain crunch - on for bluesy/plexi leads

everything else same as before

It has been my experience that you will probably exceed the useable volume of the cab before the speakers blow. I loaded a Marshall cab with 4 EVM12L's, and I could only crank it so loud before the cab started farting out. I think there's only so much spl a cab can handle. You will probably get better results running 2 or 4 cabs.

So i ordered them! I will see how they sound hopefully in a few weeks. I ALSO ordered the weber beam blockers. I heard they are really good about dealing with the highs.
