I think they both sounded pretty good for just jamming with really no practice or set jam. I thought the coolest part was Kirk being so excited about jamming with his idol Schenker. To be in one of the biggest bands in the world and still be that genuine and excited is great IMO. Even with all the flack Kirk gets he is still probably one of the most down to earth, humble players around.

Didn't see this until after replying but yeah, this.

That jam was awesome! You have to give Hammet credit on that, but holy hell, was Schenker's tone incredible or what? He played and sounded the best of anyone I've ever heard on that show. GREAT phrasing...

No doubt.

Those vids were great. Really like the discussion vid. Awesome!

schenker yes, hammet uh no...funniest part, here is this chord progression and schenker is looking at him like "that is natural thing with an extra chord.

Awful that Hammet has that Gary Moore/Peter Green guitar, money locks up things I guess.

At first, I thought they were going to actually jam over Natural Thing. On the behind the scenes video, you can see MS asking him about those "extra parts" right before they jam.

Why is that awful?? I thought it was great. Guy seems to be a genuin fan and says he actually uses it.

Its seriously awful that KH has that LP. What a travesty. It really should be hanging on the wall of a dentist somewhere. Not a touring, relevant musician.

guitar has a story, Moore picked it up from Green during his mental illness expecting to get it back, Moore would not give it back and then sold it to pay tour debts. Shame Green could not just get it back instead of Moore selling it....

I thought that burst was stolen from Ronnie Montrose in the early 70s? Then made it to Moore.

Well you never know. It might make it back into Peters hands. Kinda like Joe Perrys LP that Slash ended up with and then gave it back to Joe on his BDay

Agreed. Better than in the hands of some collector somewhere.

Does he play anymore?

Maybe I'm in the minority and maybe not but for what it was and meant to be I really enjoyed it! How often does someone get to jam with their idol. I'm sure KH wasn't too overly concerned about what he was doing precisely. Just the look on his face was enough..............he was enjoying himself! And yes....Schenker sounded awesome! The tone from the Randall was excellent as well. Great episode.

I was blown away at how much of a Schenker fanboi Kirk is. I mean he was almost schooling Eddie Trunk on U.F.O. It was actually cool to see someone that plays arenas and has millions to be like a little kid around his hero. Kirk was on another show with Uli Jon Roth and looked excited, but nothing like the Schenker meeting.

Any idea where PG's other '59 ended up? He gave it to an elevator operator in England, while in the midst of his breakdown.

Montrose guitar, not the "Greenie" Les Paul.

I'm with you man on Schenker's tone/playing. He's been in top form for lotsa years now. Last 2 times I saw him in L.A. he was absolutely killing it, and continues to do so!!!

The After Show - Kirk talks about the Greeny/Gary Moore LP and Schenker talks about why he plays a V - And the guys reveal some 'unique' tone tips ;)

Schenker played and sounded amazing.

Kirk's new Randall/Meathead actually sounds good, but KH needs to dial back the gain just a bit.
