Kirk Hammett on THAT METAL SHOW.....

i met Kirk on the ride the lightning tour
me and my pal were watching wasp as the warm up act which was quite a show...and kirk walks right up to us and says
"you guys got any drugs you would like to share?"

we gave him some weed and he told us where the band was staying and to come and hang after the gig.
He signed my ticket stub and I still have it somewhere.

my friend had an incredible denim jacket with a really perfect painting of the jump in the fire ep painted on the back [orange monster] of it so we went to get it signed.

so we get to the motel and just before we got there james got the boot from a groupie in his room because he couldn't get it up !!!
or so she loudly proclaimed.

Kirk was in his room banging some chick while her BF was waiting outside for her and he was really pissed.
So Hetfield is taller than i thought, drunk and quite aggro at this point ,sees my pal's jacket and totally flips out
grabs a marker and signs it without being asked to.

Kirk's ho comes out and her BF starts berating her as "slut" "whore" etc and kirk starts crying!
[too many drugs]

meanwhile we are talking to the coolest member of aloholica….cliff,
who was wearing a dark blue cut rate discount store snorkel jacket with the orange lining and fake fur lined hood.
So he was shooting the shit with us,passing around splifs and a bottle of smirnoff.
That bottle got signed by the 3 of them.
I remember cliff having a serious cali accent and reminded me of jeff spiccoli from fast times at ridgemont high with his vernacular and pronunciation.
I had seen Metallica about 2 years prior in a tiny scummy club in Yonkers called the rising sun,and we helped them load in their gear and they were "unknown" at that point.
This was on the kill em all for one tour.

We knew they were gonna be big but never guessed how huge they would actually become.
Anyway-Kirk-a cool and sensitive dude who loved the ladies and weed and pills.
back then I thought he was a great guitar player but after MOP he and the band kinda fell off hard from my vantage.
Over the years i realized he is pretty mediocre,but it fits the music i guess.
I was/am honored to have met cliff and james…is the boss….and he acted like one.

Thankfully I never dealt with lars except at that rising sun gig and only for a brief innocuous moment.

Meeting megadeth at club manhattan's in rockland county during the day at their soundcheck on the killing is my business tour is another thread unto itself.

I am lucky that I was involved in tape trading and the early days of thrash in the 80's and left with some great memories.

I heard James Hetfield recruited Landmi ne Marathon to tour with Metallica, that makes him cooler than Kirk.

I just saw the coming attractions for the new season, and the guests that will be on.

I did see Lars, I believe this will be his second appearance

And VERY quickly when he walking out from the curtain was Adrian Smith, Iron Maiden's First appearance from any Maiden member

so there are plenty of shit guitar players that play in bands at all levels of success, me being one of them

it's fun, sometimes you can make a few dollars, maybe enough to cover gas and partying etc.

I never did had any desire to do anything but write tunes, play to a few people, and have a good time. but if lightning had struck and I'd somehow been in a situation to get a record deal I would definitely have considered seeing where it all went. Now, i my band had actually blown up and got huge, I doubt I would have told my bandmates "Guys, I'm not a good enough guitar player for this level of success, I'm gonna quit, you better find a better player."

People rag on Kirk about being a shit player, and rag on him about not deserving the success. I doubt when he joined Metallica it had anything to do with being the biggest metal band in the world or making millions of dollars. It just happened. Like winning the lottery. So I don't understand why people rag on him about his skills. I've never once heard the guy try to tell anybody he was a better player than them.

I like Kirk's playing. It's not my favorite, but it's good enough. The amount of money the guy has made has nothing to do with his abilities as a musician. Look at all the millionaire pop stars and rappers if you need any validation.

Man, that is an awesome story!!!

I haven't really met any rock stars which is strange considering I've been a metalhead since the early 80's. I did meet Tupac Shakur in Hawaii a few months before he was killed. He actually bumped into me (literally) outside the Hard Rock Cafe and I was like "who the hell?" and then I noticed it was him and his entourage. He signed a parking pass for me. :)

I've met quite a few celebrities at different things over the years. Kind of strange. I'll be somewhere and a famous person will walk right by. Met a lot of Pittsburgh Steelers. I almost dumped an entire large Coke on Kevin Greene's wife's lap. That was pretty funny but I thought he was going to kill me. Would have been a funny story at my funeral. :)

I know his wife through business, but don't really know him. All I've ever said about him is that - regardless of what we think he is in the talent department - he and his bandmates fill stadiums, I don't. Simple. Lots of WIN all over this cat, and I dig the fact they've been around for as long as they have. When I found out he was a surfer, dooooooooooooood, the guy just won mega marks in my book :lol: :LOL:
