My first was Alive; and I saw the Rock and Roll Over tour live. Hooked ever since, long before Kiss Army was a thing.
That is why I'm a KISS fan. "Unmasked" could have buried them but perseverance prevailed and they returned with that gem. They did that so many times in their career. "Revenge" is another example of a solid album. That said, when Creatures dropped that was next level. The Kiss fans that were left were like oh shit. Still my favorite album of theirs and it's really the only one that I still listen to on a regular basis. I mean Steve Farris, Robben Ford taking solo's...it's good ststuff.
My childhood! I spent hours looking at that cover and insert. Superheroes!!my favorite album was the first Kiss album i bought

No kidding. And agree with everything you said. That is why I'm a KISS fan. "Unmasked" could have buried them but perseverance prevailed and they returned with that gem. They did that so many times in their career. "Revenge" is another example of a solid album.
As a military brat, then in myself, I traveled a lot and count on a KISS album being in the store and grounding me with something familiar. I'm glad they are finishing at the top of their game with the biggest explosions, a solid tour, etc. I really hope they bring Ace, Peter, Bruce, and Vinnie up on stage at those last shows.
My 5 fave albums in order are Creatures, Destroyer, Revenge, HTH and LIU.
I remember when I first heard it. l liked The Oath, Only You but as a diehard, it confused me lol. I mean Odyssey, Just a Boy, head scratching. In all seriousness, what's your take on Music from The Elder?
And I'll just lay it out, I'm not much of an Ace fan.
I always tell my buddy, I wish I could have thrown some KISS albums together and picked my favorite songs. "Dressed to Kill" has some great stuff. I wish the production was better on "Hotter Than Hell". It sounds distant and distorted but some great stuff on there. Parasite is awesome and Goin Blind is great. I loved when they did that acoustic. No kidding. And agree with everything you said.
My 5 fave albums in order are Creatures, Destroyer, Revenge, HTH and LIU. I always loved when those guys pushed the heavy envelope. I even like Carnival...Bruce's playing on Revenge and Carnival was top notch. And I go back a long time with them, all the way back to Alive when I discovered them...like alot of "older" fans lol.
As for Carnival I wished they had given that album the proper treatment. I kinda get the feeling towards the end of production of that album that they were heading to the Reunion and the production and some of the weaker tunes show it. Production wise it's almost there. And of course HTH, the music is so damn good you have to look over the grungy production, in some ways it almost contributes to the uniqueness of that album.
Honestly my musical triumvirate is Kiss, Thin Lizzy and Queen. I've never not been a fan. They release a shit album, then you call it like is but I always stuck with those guys. I mean Hot in the Shade by Kiss, I hate that album. I actually took it back and got my money back lol. Queen's Hot Space is pure hot shit. Still, those are my bands ride or die.
Ace on those first three albums...Kiss doesn't work without him. And dude was money on Alive. Then the fame and booze got him. He legs it out on Destroyer even though Wagner takes some solo's but by RnR Over I think Ace was done in terms of moving forward as a player. And the thing is he an Paul gelled on guitar, very complimentary players in how they approached the song. I just wished Ace had kept it in check and progressed with the band through the 80's. No he was never going to pull out stuff like Kulick or Vincent but his early playing was very original, would have been nice to see him keep it together.I think Ace has always had the looseness in his playing that complemented how tight and structured KISS songs are. KISS wouldn't be the same with anyone else IMO. When you hear that twang in the Firehouse solo or the pulls in Deuce, etc., it has swagger.
Later Ace I totally agree, but I really dug his stuff on those first three albums. It was perfect for Kiss.I'd already been in deep with Blackmore, Page, Beck, etc. when Kiss dropped.
I get the band's immense popularity but Ace's playing was always pretty paint by numbers for me.
Agreed. Thing is with Kiss coming off the boards, Aerosmith at the end and obviously the Stones near the grave that's three bands with decades, 50-60 years of music and touring that's going to be no more.70 years old and still doing what they love doing (Gene and Paul at least)
I mean, I can only wish.....
Seriously, let me know if you are able to do this when you are 70 + yrs old.
Always a fan, regardless.
And don't forget the Scorpions, Deep Purple, etc. It is like everyone is finishing up at thr same time and it sucks.Agreed. Yes, that's why I've always (mostly, not so much open to other music in my teens) search for new, different and other music and can usually find something. To some here that makes the "cringy old guy trying to be cool" but I enjoy discovering and exploring music I find interesting. And don't forget the Scorpions, Deep Purple, etc. It is like everyone is finishing up at thr same time and it sucks.
