As a former KLON owner, this is the best clone I've heard yet.

Have you checked out the new Soul Food by EHX? Super cheap and supposed to be pretty close. I'm not chasing that tone but I've heard it's a pretty killer overdrive for around $60.

I have not, but I have heard that there are some quality issues with the EHX. I spent to $200.00 on the Klone By Tone, so maybe I should have given the SF a shot.

that sounds pretty good? Its hard to tell how rhythm playing will cut with this demo..sounds like the highs are tamed too much for me but that may be the amps eq- not the pedal. I have to have bite for my rhythm playing and solo playing...don't like all the smeared "legato" sound that a tube screamer puts out. I had the ARC clone but went back to my boss sd-1. Have you tried the ARC? and how does it compare to this one?

I have not tried the ARC. I've owed the Dan Zink, Mojo, and the JHS. I purchased the Klone By Tone last night. I use to own 2 x silver KLON's, and 1 x gold KLON with the centaur logo. The thing was, all three of those pedals sounded slightly different also, so it's difficult to say which clone is "the best". What I will say is that all of the clones I've owned so-far have had a somewhat unpleasant top-end compared to a real KLON. My guess is that it may have something to do with the chinese made TL072 op-amps?

This just reminded me of something! I had 7 x original Texas Instruments TL072 op-amps, but had to use them after ADA (David Tarnowski) 'kyped' them from my STD-1 delay. I sent the delay to him for a pot repair, and got it back with chinese op-amps in it! I used the 7 that I had to put it back to stock.

He did the same thing to another guy...

That's one way to get the parts you need to reissue a device... Steal them from vintage units that don't belong to you! :boxer:

Only heard a couple of clips of the soul food so far and I am both impressed and not impressed. I am impressed that for $60 it gets in the ballpark, but I am not impressed with er he harshness I hear compared to the centaur and ktr. It sounded closer to the ktr i version to my ears.

Wow, incredible tale about the op amps! Post a clip/review when the new piece of gear arrives..

I can't post YT videos, because I deleted my Google account over a year ago. I have some recordings I want to post, so maybe I'll sign up for a new account.

Pretty damn close. The Klon is just a little bit brighter. But other than that sounds dead on to me.

The Klone by tone sounds good. It sounds closer than the soul food clips I have heard so far. The Klone by tone to me sounded darker and a bit more congested than the original klon, which sounded more open by comparison. I didn't hear the harshness that I did on the soul food clips....

I think I prefer what I'm hearing from the Klone By Tone in clip #1. :dunno:

I have a Soul Food I bought brand new a couple weeks ago. I used it twice just to get the idea of what that tone was all about. I prefer my other boosts better. I will sell in box with all of the extras it comes with, including shipping for $55.

I was pissed, but what could I do?

I was going through my inventory this morning (looking for a 1uf cathode bypass capacitor), and found 8 x USA Ti TL072 and 1 x Japanese JRC4558D op amps!

i have aluminum falcon and an arc

i prefer the AF1 and AF2

of those i prefer the original aluminum falcon.

I had the gold Aluminum Falcon II also. It was a nice enough pedal, but it didn't sound like a KLON to my ears. Why did they change it?
