TSRTS really is Zeppelin at the pinnacle of their powers, right before it all started collapsing.
I was there with my 2 friends the last night, July 29, 1973. An amazing show. I was just starting guitar and I walked out of that show thinking I needed a new hobby. I still have vivid memories of the vibe in the hall that night. It was all very mysterious. You have to remember, no internet. All we had was album covers and a few rock magazines to get info on the band.TSRTS was filmed the final three nights of the Houses of the Holy tour in July 1973.
It was the end of an era, because those three shows were the capstone of basically five years of constant touring. The band started in September 1968 and they only took one real break: A five month hiatus where they wrote and recorded Led Zeppelin IV. Other than that, they spent almost their entire lives on the road with a month or two off a year.
After filming TSRTS the band took an almost 18 month break from touring. They returned in 1975 (which got off to a very rough start), but after the Earls' Court shows the Physical Graffiti tour was cancelled and they went to work on presence. That's also when Jimmy started getting super into heroin. They didn't hit the road again until 1977 for their "cursed" US tour that was also cancelled. They were again off stage for two years until playing Knebworth (their first shows in England since Earls Court), and it took almost a year after that for them to actually tour again, and of course that tour was cut short after the European leg due to Bonzo dying.
