As for Holdsy...Ralphie, he so isn't "avantgarde".
That said he isn't oing down like baby food that's for sure. However he has had his moments where he whored himself out. Level 42 comes to mind.

Sup Ed!!

I have the Level 42 stuff lol!! With that said, I used to be a HUGE Holdsworth fan and I used to have all of his albums. His playing always blew me away!
And Just for the record, The solo to uk's in the dead of night is one of my all time favorite solos ever put to disc ;)

May get bashed for this but..............................................you should sell them. You work hard to create the disk and should make some beer money out of it.
No I definitely hear you... Id rather you give my album away for free to everyone you know, have them dig it and show up to a show than sell it to *you.*

I mean, we will have it for sale, but I will have it hosted so you can download it in mp3 format for those that I want to have it.

But hey, if you want buy it, I have a paypal account with your name on it. :D

Luckily you appear to be doing that already...

Shea, I finally went to your band's myspace page and I have to tell you how much I enjoyed the music. Just kick ass, down and dirty rock-n-roll and I think you are a great singer and I can definitely hear the Gibbons influence in your playing. I think the songwriting is top notch as well. Next time I'm in Austin, I'm making sure that it coincides with one of your shows so I can check the band out live...

Steve
Damn brother thank you very much for the kind words!!! Its comments like these that make me want to keep pushing forward!

The last few months since NAMM Ive been sort of waiting on some connections I made in Anaheim to go record, but Im tired of sitting around without a "real" product, so In the next few weeks Im paying for my band to go into a local studio and we're going to cut 8-10 tracks and put it out ourselves, and see where it takes us.

Not that recording in LA is out of the picture, just that I *need* a product now, and if it comes out sounding right, I can send it to my friends out there and they can use it to get us into a better studio (if need be) and/or help shop us to a label.

Anyways, again I truely appreciate the comments and sorry for thread hijack everybody. :D
Anton flaking on you?

Anton flaking? Geez... what a shock...

Steve

Metal Fatigue and Gongzilla are my faves. I used to not be able to listen to them, now I love them though. Cool stuff!

When you decide to go down the avante garde muscial path, you are going to be eating top ramen noodles. I hate to say this but the general public as well as the normal musician could give two fucks about that type of music. He either needed to embrace that FACT or switch musical gears or play more shows to the eclectic crowds per year.

With that said, Alcoholism is Alans Biggest problem IMHO. Im pretty sure that if he freed himself of that disease, his thinking would become clear and that alone would probably get his head out of his ass.

Just my opinions!!

I tried to listen to some of Holdsworth's music and i can't sit through it. IMHO it's a bore fest. He is probably one of the most technical guitar players in the world but he doesn't make the type of music i care about.

I think i would rather have the talent to come up with catchy 3 chord songs like AC/DC and play to sold out world tours and have stinky panties thrown at me instead of playing to 50 guitar nerds on a music store clinic tour. ;)
And realistically speaking what is the likelihood of either happening?

Realistically speaking I'm not trying to make a living in the music business. It was just a hypothetical scenario anyway and i wouldn't want either one at this stage in my life.

Judging by your Myspace stuff, I too will be taking a signed copy of that CD.

What makes you think he doesn't think clearly ??? I don't know about that. I feel the whole tone of this thread is very strange because I didn't get at all the same impression as some people here got when reading the article. He doesn't sound bitter about his career at all...

He's saying his career just happened that way, like a sort of unavoidable fate. Some people struggle to become musician and never make a living out of it while Allan became a working musician without even knowing it... He's struggling with music itself, not with his career, like every real musician should. He's a real artist, that's all.

Some people have absolutely no desire to become rockstars. It may seem strange in the US where money is the sole measure of success but for some people money really is a secondary thing. People here are assuming to much about him. Nothing to do with alcoholism... Anyway, if alcohol is the fuel of his career, I'd like more guitarists to hit the sauce. ;)

I find it hard to believe that people aren't materialistic in France or other parts of the world, sorry.

I never said that people weren't materialistic at all in France or other parts of the world. I said that, in the US, money plays a bigger part in the measure of success than in other parts of the world. Is that clearer ? That is not the main point I was trying to bring out anyway.

A lot of prominent musicians are calling Allan Holdsworth the greatest guitarist out of the 20th century. I'd say it's certainly a great achievement, from a musical point of view. I call that a successful career. I'm sure every guitarist would dream of such an achievement before anything else, right ? We are talking about music 'round this parts, right ?

I agree. I'll buy a copy in a heartbeat. You do good stuff Shea!

Related to the original topic...

My introduction to Holdsworth was through the band UK way back in the end of the 70's.
Unfortunately, he left the band before seeing them live.

He's a tremendous guitar player and yes I have a hard time listening to his stuff for an extended period
of time.
