Lightest locking tuners for a Les Paul?

I like the fact that Sperzels are aluminum rather than pot metal, but the gear ratio really sucks.

Hipshots seem nice, but I've never tried them.

My Les Paul is on the lighter side. I just dropped a set of Grover lockers, they function great, but the balance seems off compared to the stock Gibbo Deluxe tuners.

Anything else worth looking at?

On a Les Paul, would these fit in the holes drilled for Grovers or Klusons?

I would prefer it if they screwed right in instead of using the plates which are kind of ugly.

I agree the plates are kind of ugly. I have never used the plates, but I've also never installed them on a Gibson before, so I have no idea if the screws line up.

Damn. A balance issue by what couldn’t possibly be a few ounces??

Hipshots are great. That said the holes won’t align. I’ve grown to no longer hate the plates on an SG I have them on but had to drill new holes on an LP. The good news is they’re short so the hole will be covered if you go back

I looked around when i got my LP Classic and decided on the Grover locking tuners. Direct replacement to the original non-locking Grovers and did not change the weight balance on my LP either.

However, I've always been interested in the Hipshot locking tuners as well.

Good luck
