Looking for a furman pq3 or pq4 alternative

I usually agree with you, but not this time. I have a Rane, Audio Arts, the 2 Lofts and a Furman, the Furman is noisy as shit but all the others give the sane tone, so secret sauce with the Fishfry Furman
“Fish Fry” lol. So true.

I haven’t tried those others you have; I’ve almost bought the Audio Arts a few times. But, I was comparing the Empress to the TC to the Furman…all I’ve owned; and neither the Empress nor the TC can get that mid snarl that the Furman can.

The Audioarts I like for its tightness over other PQ’s, but I rarely use it actually. Once I got the Intersound PRV-1 the Furman was barely hanging on as a keeper just for its mids, but ultimately decided one or 2 of my pedals had even better mids. The Fortin Maxon I got recently has the best, most aggressive, dense midrange I’ve heard in any boost so far. I’m getting another. This time a Fortin modded Ibanez TS9 to mix things up with my current one being a Maxon OD808 as the base for it

This is what I use as well - put my PQ3 up for sale the day I got it. Do you use a footswitch to take it in and out of the circuit Dave? I'm working on building one with an LED indicator for it now...
I'm too lazy, I just walk over and swipe my finger to turn it on/off. :hys:

Well for now I’m going with the loft 401. We will see where I end up. I have some decent pedals and other toys to mess around with and try to get to that magic tone in my head. Though we all know we don’t ever get there. Hence the gear addiction lol.

I actually use an RG100ES with a VFE Standout out front. Tone and gain is insane.

Here is a sound test with an iPhone

I hate to bug you, but could you make quick clip of what the amp sounds like with the Standout off, then switch it on ? Maybe show the amp settings ? Do you engage the amp’s overdrive with the treble knob pulled out ? I just bought a standout in the classifieds and can’t wait to get it to try it out.

Here is a pic of the amp and pedal. Treble is pulled out.

Standout is driving the amp hard. The switch is in the center. You should be able to see the knob locations. Blend is maxed out. Internal gain trim pot is 1/2 way.

if you ever want to try this rig, digitally, there's solidus randy 250 who is litterally a randall rg100es with a furman EQ pre....
i know it's a sim, an i'm out of topic here, but it's a great way to try the rig first without investing any money in the hardware.. I learned with that that I love that tone!

not affialited with audiority, i know it's a rare piece of gear and i thought some of you guys might appreciate a digital version of it

Thanks for the heads up. I may check this out even though I have some very similar gear on the way. Will give me a chance to check out the real deal stuff.

Hey Dave what's the other pedal that the Standout is plugged into? A noise gate?

I can’t find any aphex eq’s for my IIC+. Can you recommend any alternatives that can actually be found? 😁

I know this thread is more than a month old, but I've got a Master Effects EQFH and it's great! I use it to get a cocked wah sound a la Gary Holt. I got it to replace a JHS Haunting Mids.

The JHS pedal is great, but I wanted more headroom. The EQFH has an internal charge pump that bumps 9v up to 30.

I also have a Source Audio EQ2 and that pedal is amazing. I used to use it to boost the front end of my amp and also in the effects loop as a master volume. That kind of just made stuff sound weird, so I got the JHS when I realized it was a cheaper version of the Pro Tone Gary Holt Boost. (Which is a more expensive version of the Pro Tone Cor-Mid Boost)

So yeah, the EQFH is amazing. If you want something rack mountable, the Presonus EQ3B is pretty rad and you can usually find them for $150 or less: https://reverb.com/p/presonus-eq3b-...W6ndE6mC8K2cDmuvwYNhG3at8q3x27ChoCBJ8QAvD_BwE

Lastly, GUP Tech just dropped this: https://guptech.ca/products/pptsd-parametric-eq?variant=41711343927496

I've never used it, so I can't vouch for it, but it sounded good in YouTube videos. I can vouch for GUP Tech products and say they're super-high quality. Hope you find (or found) what you're looking for!
