I'm looking just to boost a little for solo's, I am already using and EQ to tighten things up and barely boos the mids some. I tried the MXR CAE MC401 boost line driver a few years ago, I wasn't that impressed but I was thinking of revisting it again. I think I tried and MXR micro amp as well but I can't remember if I did. I see John Suhr has an Iso-boost, I really think Suhr builds great stuff, just wondering if it is worth the $175.00 versus and micro amp at $79.00.

Any experience with the Suhr? Other suggestions.

I use a MXR Micro Amp as a boost, if I just want to kick things up a little, even for clean rythyms. I really like it.

What about an Empress Para EQ with Boost? And maybe lose the EQ pedal at the same time.

Creation labs MK.4.23 or xotic ep boost

That Creation labs MK4 pedal roused my interest the last time I was looking for a clean boost.

I like the EQ that I am using now, just looking to boost the signal a little ahead of the EQ. Can you run the boost and then click on the mid boost over the clean boost side??? The description is kind of unclear, in the first vid when he clicked on the mid boost side the clean boost side turned off..... The suhr description makes it sound like you can run both the clean boost and the mid boost simultaneuously. The plexi vid makes it sound as if he is using both the clean boost and the mid boost at the same time.

This suhr looks interesting...

I think I'm gonna give the original two button Suhr Koko boost a go.

Meh, the creation labs smokes it if you try the 48vdc version.

I had a Suhr Koko Boost (original version). Thought it was pretty good, but not amazing. For clean boosts without eq color, my favorites have really just been my vintage rack pq units where I bybass the eq and just use the output knob (Audioarts 4100, Furman PQ-3, TC 1140). I guess they may not be practical though for everyone

I didn’t like the Empress PQ anywhere near as much. Sounded clinical, sterile and ugly artifacts to its tone. Seems that Empress pedals are like that in general

The boost pedals I kept all add color in a nice way. All the “transparent” ones came and went

The man makes a point. I also use the pq3 and it is even better than any pedal.

I got rid of SO many pedals once I got my PQ3 (I have 2 now)

The Audioarts 4100 PQ also seems great so far. Once I’m back in New York I’ll compare it with my PQ3 and TC 1140. All killer units that will send 99% of pedals packing imo

I stack a 10 band EQ and some type of boost full-time on any gain ch. Ive got both, the 4.23 9v & 48v versions. I mainly used a mxr microamp single knob or a Metropolis Supa-Boost. All these boost sound good stacked, through my preamps. Some boosts I like better with certain preamps. I do have to pay attention to the gain levels if I choose to goose the gain on the EQ pedal.

As far as the mk4.23’s, when stacking i prefer the 9V version. Conversations with Creative Labs (Alex) the 48v pedals have an internal voltage of 72. The new 9v versions (2014 And up) have the voltage increased of 72 as well.

All my 18v pedals are a little to much with the EQ pedal, espicially when apply anytype of gain from the EQ.

+1 on the mk 4.23. I run one last in my signal chain in the series loop and it works great for volume boost for solo's in a band situation.
It's pretty transparent and I like that with the knob all the way down there is no boost or volume loss, all you have to do turn it up to the raised volume you want.
I run mine at about 9:00 and it really puts the volume where I need to be.

Suhr Iso boost works great, very transparent if that's what you're looking for? I've used the Dunlop Echoplex and MXR Micro amp in the past but they color the tone which you may or may not like..the Suhr also works great in a effects loop to boost solos!

Is the Koko boost basically the Iso boost on the left side and the additional mid boost on the right? Does the Micro amp color the tone in a good or bad way????? Sometimes coloring is good.

Al since you've used the Isoboost and the Mxr Micro amp, which one was your favorite for boosting for solo's? I'm already using and EQ to boost a tiny bit in the mids into a slaved Superlead W/D/W setup.

I'm with spiderwars. I run a paraeq right before my hexdrive. I have the boost on half power, and it really brings it over the top

The MXR Micro amp will add high end, probably not great for a plexi style amp but maybe good for a darker heavier gain amp? Yes the larger Koko boost is the Iso boost on the left or if you want a smaller footprint there's the Koko boost reloaded, I actually did a demo for it

For a Marshall style amp the Wampler Tumnus Deluxe is awesome as a boost. It's a Klon clone, but has active bass, mid, and treble controls- lots of ability to really dial in what your looking for. It can sound like a natural extension of your amp, or a mid boost, or whatever you want. I use it with my Runt 50 as a faux HBE channel.
