I have built a few EP Booster clones and feel that they fit the bill wonderfully. They do add a little bit of tone, but I would consider that "sweetness" IMO. I sold the three I built.

Suhr Iso boost works great, very transparent if that's what you're looking for? I've used the Dunlop Echoplex and MXR Micro amp in the past but they color the tone which you may or may not like..the Suhr also works great in a effects loop to boost solos!

The MXR Micro amp will add high end, probably not great for a plexi style amp but maybe good for a darker heavier gain amp? Yes the larger Koko boost is the Iso boost on the left or if you want a smaller footprint there's the Koko boost reloaded, I actually did a demo for it

Al what would you recommend between the standard Koko and the Koko reloaded? I see the Koko reloaded has a Mids Q(bandwidth adjustment for the mid boost) Does this make the koko reloaded more flexible? I like the two footswitches of the regular Koko more than the Reloaded but I think the Mids Freq Q adjustment would also be a great addition to the Regular Koko. I am would be afraid the bandwidths would be too narrow or wide on the regular Koko, I know it has a freq bandwidth that I guess would be low, med and high bandwidths on the standard Koko. I wish he would have added the Mids Q pot to the regular Koko.

I'm already using a EP3 pedal and EQ pedal in front of the amp so I need some else to do some boosting which is why I'm looking for an addtional boost option. I tried a Merman Klon pedal and it was cool but I felt it was too soft actually, it was transparent and sounded good, just not in this application. I just need a gain boost, the added mids boost of the Koko seems the most practical to me at this point.

If you don’t want to color the sound in any way or add any distortion, the Spark mini is fantastic. I set mine at 9:00 - which would probably equal about ‘2’ on a numeric dial - and it is perfect to lift leads just above the amp’s setting. It also adds that extra touch of sustain without adding any dirt.

I don't personally own either of the Koko boosts since I only use the Iso boost, if I had to choose I would go for the reloaded, seems more flexible in a smaller package

MXR MC402. It's the Boost of the MC401 & an Over drive. They can be used separately or together.
