Yup, the stock V7s have to go cause they are pretty much vanilla sounding. Splitting the coils sound great clean and semi dirty but not getting a warm fuzzy over the higher gain stuff.

I am thinking Evos but always looking for suggestions.

If you don't want the stock pickups I'll take them off your hands.

Everyone says Tone Zone, which I need to try one in my RG570-FM myself.

Edit- also hear Air Norton for neck - again I haven't tried these myself, but seemed to be the general consenus when I asked before for these types of guit-fiddles.

If you ask the Jemsiters then the very likely answer is Tone Zone and Air Norton combination.

bill lawrence L-500s, the real ones from Bill himself

I do not have any experience with those, always wanted to check them out.

Those Air Nortons sound nice. I also like the custom custom SD.

I know what you mean, I have V7 / V8 in my RG520. I was going to put EMG H4s in there, but decided I'd go with SDs instead.

GL!

very tight sounding pickup...but very bright (brighter than a JB or 81) and kinda scooped sounding

not what i'd probably want in a 550

Dude they are Super ULTRA RARE 20th anny V7s

You cant ket these anywhere!!!!!!!!!!!

No problem for you though ;)

I had a RG550 back in the early 90s and I put a Duncan Distortion in it and that sounded great!

BTW, the ToneZone sounds awful in basswood. Too bass heavy with an annoying cocked-wah sound. The AN will always rule for neck pickups.

Tone Zone sounds equally horrid in mahogany.

I imagine almost everyone will be changing them out. ;)

I have an old Yamaha Pacifica that I wouldn't mind putting back on the road...just needs some pickups.

Two of the pickguard screws are already missing paint on mine but I bet a lot of dofuses are storing these things to collect

Should be a couple of weeks, I will use the same moose you used :cheer:

Evo will get you the tight, searing Vai tone, but if you want to grow a pair, you'd be better with a Duncan. JB or custom IMO! :D

Hmmmmmmm....I am thinking you could be very correct here. I have a bad habit of dialing in more upper mids than I should to begin with.
