Having long hair in 1996 wasn't cool. Remember when they were called Alternica at the time?? I remember it clearly. It was about them trying to be mainstream, them turning into a anternative band. There is nothing metal about Load or Reload. But yes, they certainly were seeking popularity, the Black Album was the crossover album for them, and they just did the logical next step in selling out, by turning into Stone Temp[le Pilots, lol.

Ok nevermind, I think this answers it. You're a complete idiot child who has no idea what you're talking about. You sound like an impossibly naive teenager who has grown up in some backwoods hick place with idiot fundamentalist parents, and you never having been exposed to the real world. For starters, pedophiles hurt children, while gay people are attracted to people of the same sex and generally engage in mutually consensual relationships with other gay people. Pedophiles and homosexuals don't overlap any more than pedophiles and heterosexuals.

Have you ever had a genuine conversation with a gay person? I don't mean holding up a sign that sags "god hates fags" and yelling at them through a megaphone, I mean a serious, good faith conversation with a gay person about them being gay. Because I have. I used to think like you, like a profoundly ignorant child. Because I also grew up in a backwoods hick idiot place and I didn't know anything, because I was taught that garbage. And you know what I learned after deciding to try understanding it using actual evidence and speaking with actual people with an experience different than mine? I learned that gay people are gay because they're gay. That's it. They really are born that way. They know they're gay as early as any human can know about sexual attraction, and lots of them have great parents. Some of them don't admit they are gay, even to themselves until later in life, but deep down they all seem to know pretty early on. Too many to support your idiotic theory at least. This can be an inconvenient fact for someone who thinks the world is a lot simpler than it is. If gay people are just gay, and they aren't made that way through some kind of self-imposed or parentally-imposed evil, then all that means is they just have their own preferences, like anybody else, which also means that suddenly there's nothing wrong with them, but instead *you're* the asshole bully for giving them a hard time over something they have no more control over than the color of their eyes.

Also, I'll tell you one more thing since your apparent need to project the image of seeming tough and in-control so outwardly suggests you need a decent father figure in your life. Do you know what it means to be an alpha? Do you know what an alpha does? An alpha male's primary, defining characteristic in nature, across almost all species... is caring for his own. Imagine believing that cutting their hair was them trying to be mainstream. And it's even funnier when you look at the most mainstream acts of the 90's and turns out a lot of them still had long hair and were devoted to that classic rock star image.

If they would have wanted to be mainstream, they would have made a Black Album 2, but then what's the point? Metallica didn't like to do the same thing over and over again, they always liked to experiment. From Kill'em All to Ride The Lightning, from Ride to Master, from Master to Unjustice and then the Black Album, they always tried different things and different sounds.

Load & Re-Load was them don't giving a crap about being mainstream and just trying different things and different sounds. James did his most personal lyrics ever with a new sense of maturity he never had before, while also showing some of his musical influences unafraid of what some closed minded metal fan could think about.

Oh, but Load isn't metal!

Who the fuck cares, there are amazing songs in that record, I don't give a crap what genre they can be put on.

That’s the most bizarre thing I’ve ever heard. Although in many cases, those who are so loudly “anti gay” are often the ones fighting their own homosexual urges. Once Metalhex comes to terms with it and comes out of the closet he will be a much happier person.
