I hate to admit it but i was wrong about the vh4, its a great amp.
for years i never could understand the love and the hype behind it, i owned one that was built in 2002 and hated it.
i played 4 or 5 others that was pre-2007 and still didnt like it, for many years i had no desire to own any diezel other than my herbert.
the herbert has been my favorite amp for the past 3 yrs but i hated my vh4 and didnt like my einstein either.

but my mind has been changed, i have seen the light.

I played a new vh4 in august and loved it, i couldnt stop thinking about it actually until i decided to buy one.
im really happy i gave it another chance and ive decided its a keeper, im not new to amps and i know what i like and dont like, i think ive owned around 60 amps over the years. the vh4 has a feel and tightness that i love, every channel sounds good and is usuable unlike some amps. i also love how clear the gain sounds.

Nice man..... So the difference was noticeable in the new model eh?
I really loved my VH4S....think it was a 2004.
Going to hold off for the later model when I buy again. But its going to be the next amp for sure.

Diezel is good no matter which one you bond with

The VH4 changed my life!

It was definately noticable to me. I was a hater for many years and had no desire to own another one.
Some people might not hear much difference or just dial it in different than i do. Its not a major change but it was enough for me to become a fan.

Thanks man.....
I think when I had the Herbert and the VH4....I am pretty sure I had almost all the settings about noon and it sounded great.
But after doing some hindsight.....think next time I get another it will be a new model. (Unless a great deal comes up on a used one) :D

I'm feeling the same way. I swear. I knew I will be falling in love with my VH4, it was a matter of time to understand the Diezel tone, cuz it ain't an amp like the others.
I'm sure that I will get the Herbert soon. :)

very interesting man, since I knew your distaste for the VH4. good to know you like it now, it's a great amp.

Nice light show. I knew you would cross back over to the wild side.

@Peter - need an amp with green LED's next time.

Feels strange saying i love this amp, i cant wait to get home from work and play it.
I have 6 amps right now and i plan on selling 2 of them now, i dont need that many and most of the time i use the herbert. Now that i got the vh4 i doubt i will play my mark v or 5153 anymore, so it makes the most sense to sell them.

+1!!!!! I have gone through a BIG list of heads and now that I have the 4 the search has ended. For the sake of curiosity....I would love to try a new version with the KT's.

I had a 2007 model & ran EL34 & 6L6 tubes in it. I recently bought a late 2012 with KT77.

I definitely prefer the KT77 tubes.

Those were the two I thought would be first to go

Glad you're digging it so much man... Seriously glad.

Peace,
Mo

Yeah man i really like it more and more, i enjoy playing it.
I fired up the mark v yesterday after playing the vh4 and its definately on the chopping block.
I also played my herbert and uberschall and they arent going anywhere.
Later im gonna play my 5153 and see if i definately feel like selling it.

I also have a slash jube 2555sl but i wanna keep that one.

Funny Tom. You making the move to the VH4. Played mine at practice the other day and it was missing something in all the stuff we are covering and what I need it to be for now. So, pulled out the Herbie and set it up. Big smile and pleasure in playing for the sonic palette I am needing. So, the Herbie is coming out to play for a while and in upcoming gigs. Makes it nice to have both (3, counting the DM).

When you get to this level of amp-realm, it's a nice thing to be able to drift from one flavour to the next...

I could make an analogy, but reducing Diezels to that of a high-class bordello isn't my intention

No matter what, they're all f*cking amazing :D

I've been pretty interested in the VH4 lately and I'm pretty familiar with the Mark V. Can you please give me your thoughts on how the two compare. I have no way of experiencing a VH4 first hand where I live so I have to rely on you guys.
Thanks.

Different beast than the mark v, the vh4 has a dryer type of gain and less saturated but sounds clearer. The vh4 mids are different and you can sculpt you tone with the eq on the mark but at times the mark can sound hollow to my ears if you scoop to much. The vh4 is tighter to me and more percussive, the mark is smoother and more liquid sounding. Both have nice cleans, i like having 4 channels and i find the vh4 easier to dial in. The mark is also a pain in the ass to change preamp tubes.

Thanks!
I know exactly what you're talking about with the Mark sounding hollow. I could never quite find the happy medium with my old Mark IV between nasally midrange to hollow scoop. Another thing that drives me nuts with the entire Mark lineup is if you even look at the amp the tone changes. There seems to be drastic differences in the slightest tweak and by the time you get it dialed in you look at your settings and wonder what the hell Randall was thinking when he assigned the pot values.
4 useable channels with individual fx inserts are a huge plus as well.
