I like the clean tones better than the gainy ones. The distorted sounds were kinda muffled which may be just the way he had the amp set up? I like a darker tone myself, but that was further than I'd go. Who am I tho...Luke is an absolute monster player! Huge respect........

The red channel on the 101B has a general muffled kinda vibe to it. An OD pedal could take care of that though.

The XTC 101b uses Audio Taper pots for the treble controls in the tone stack. The tone stack is typical Marshall. In the typical Marshall tone stack, they use Linear taper treble pots, this means at 12:00 you have a slight treble boost. With the audio pots in the XTC, at 12:00 you have actually a slight cut in treble. So in the XTC to get the same 12:00 frequency response as your typical Marshall you would need to turn the treble pot up to 3:30 to 4:00.

The XTC is bright believe it or not. The audio taper pots in the treble darken the amp up unless you turn them up pretty far

My 101b and my Fortin Marshall both live happily together. They Compliment each other nicely. And coexist on my Kemper. :D

I'm really digging that Hardwire Delay Luke uses....

101B is a great amp. I got mine back in 2004. At the time it was Bob Savages clips that haunted me for months before I bought one. I finally broke down as I had to have one....glad I did. I use it with a Bogner slant 4x12 for a killer half stack.

Love my 101B. Seriously, I mean I bought one NEW  :loco:

Really wanted to like a 20th Anni that came in used to my local GC but, just didn't dig it. Spent more for the new 101B but, am happy. I really love the way this particular amp sounds. Some sing and some don't. Mine most definitely does

I actually didn't care for any of the pushed and drive tones he was getting. Sounded too much like a funky pedal or something. The top end was fizzy and pinched. I owned a 101b for a little while in the late 90's and it didn't zound like that at all

I'm kinda with you. I've owned and loved several xtcs over the years. I didn't really like the overdrive tone he was getting. Almost sounded like he was using the neck pickup for everything. I'm not too familiar with this guy so maybe that's his sound though.

yeah, Luke! 55 yrs old and still getting better! One of my absolute favorite players of all time. Never rested on his laurels. the guy still practice and keeps getting more tasty and musical.
I have to agree that his gain sound is a bit fuzzy, although the tone is there. Maybe in a band context the tone would mix better with the mid cuts.

The 101B is one of the greatest amps ever. Love them.....

I noticed he is using odd tone control settings, all are below 12 oclock and the presence is only at noon. On my 101b that wouldnt/doesn't sound that great. I tried it based on the Racksystems photos where you can see the front panel, I was able to see it here too in the video and it looks like he has them set about the same.

Lol Pete. I was going to say something similar but pulled back. I am good for now but would easily pick up a 20th Anniv XTC if the right opportunity comes up someday.

I had one and sold it. Was just OK for me. Tim Rose had an early, early one (white chassis) maybe it was serial #3? That thing was just killer. I loved his amp - which was why I bought one, but mine was a dog compared to his.

Almost zero amp GAS or flipping since I got my 101B back in the late 90s. Looking back, it's easy for me to justify the cost when I think about how many amps I would have blown through looking for that sound. In the end, it saved me a ton of cash.

Luke's settings are darker than I run mine, but you get a sense of how versatile the amp is, not to mention how great a player he is.

Yeah I would also suggest a EVH 5153 if you want a better red channel...I had a Bogner 20th side by side with one. However The Bogner green and blue channels are awesome, better than the evh..
