Probably my main influence, all things considered. Apart from all the obvious highlights with Toto and the sessions I want to mention his first solo album. It´s a bit hard to find these days, but every lead just explodes off the strings. A little heavier and more guitar driven than the late 80s Toto stuff, but still in that era.

Don't like most pop music from this era, but Toto is one of the few cassettes my mom had that I absolutely jammed out to.

my sister joined the columbia record club when i was just starting to become aware of great gtr players and she let me pick 2 albums

first Toto and VH2

Liked the tones in the Los Lobotomys period. Custom Audio Preamp, EMG's.
i loaded a strat with the “vintage” SC EMGs for a season but wasn’t crazy about the feel.
but i get Luke is using the EMGs and CAE for their signal strength and forward punch through his rack rigs.

In his Ecstasy 101B era, he had one of the best playing / tone combos in the game. The rig perfectly complimented the playing and vice versa and it sounded awesome.

Obviously metal tone is its own thing, but outside metal, he’s in the top 5 for guitar tone, and he’s not #5.

even though he’s always ripped, i think after the overdone rack crimes he was accused of committing, he went back to basics and it paid off.

Rack crime? Yup, he was a perpetrator straight outa Central Casting back in the '80s.

this one is cool to watch Luke improvise off the cuff with his CAE rack tones. in a massive multi piece band like Toto i get the impression that his EMG tone was all about driving his rig with strong signal and punching through the stage mix clearly.

Yeah that makes sense. He used a ton of rack gear, tons of cables, and the EMGs' low output impedance signal is great for maintaining integrity over long cable runs.
