M4, modules and TUBES question...

Don't know why and I am not attempting to speak for Egnater. But the whole idea of the Egnater system is versatilty, different types of amps are presented in each module format, the power section is designed to be user freindly so you can customize it to your taste. Knowing this why bother trying to predict what everyone wants because it is designed to be customized by the user anyway. Everything will be changed out so I guess by the nature of the flexable design there is no standard when it comes to what tubes. Your supposed to mess with it.

It does not hurt anyone to put some name on a tube. But they are just using the name!

Along those lines, I've had a THD Flexi for years. When I first got it, I went crazy with the preamp tubes—tried chinese, russian, reissue tubes, anything I could get my hands on that was modern (I've never had any NOS tubes). I found the difference was pretty minor—nothing I couldn't achieve by tweaking the EQ some. And recording...really, I can achieve any slight difference via mic technique.

That's not to say there's no point, or that NOS preamp tubes don't offer something modern tubes don't. In the end, anything that makes someone feel better about playing their amp is a good thing.

That said, different power tubes have very different wattages and sounds. I really love my THD Yellow Jacket Triodes in my MOD50! The tone is fantastic, and definitely different than the stock 5881s. :)

I find EL84 tubes just don't sound as big as other tubes for rock tones....but they solo well!!!!

Check some of the guitar tones on the songs on my Ember After album (go to either the website or myspace page, the Nimbit player will let you stream any song on the album in its entirety by clicking the play button).

I think you'll hear some MONSTER rock rhythm tones from my MOD50 using SL2, E-Rect, and COD modules, Yellow Jacket Triodes, Lo Power mode, and my Egnater 1x12. :)

Give some of the songs like Paranoid (yes, the sabbath track) or The Faker a listen, and see what you think of the rock tones....
