Around here there are usually one or two 1960 cabs on CL for $400–I buy those, sell the 75w Celestions for $50/pop and bingo, $200 empty cab
that's the best way to do it .....
I was purposefully looking for a beat to shit 1960A to refurb ... I grabbed this cab from a guy that wanted 250 for it .....
it had maybe 70 percent of the tolex left on it ... and the grill didn't look any better ....

when I got there ... without me saying a word he dropped the price down to 200 because of the tolex ... when I threw it into my truck there was hardly any tolex on the bottom .... he said shit .. didnt know it was that bad ... and gave it to me for 175 ....

brought it home .... stripped it down and took it apart ... total refurb ..... then I sold the speakers for 200 ..... LMFAO and installed some brand new " Eddie " backs .. and now it looks like this ...

That’s great!

Damn that looks good dude. If I had a dovetail jig I could do something halfway professional. So I just butt joint everything.

I've got a 1/4 inch Dado blade for my table saw and a really nice jig for it .... I bought some tools when I saw how much the Marshall headshells were going for ... I've got a decent router table now too ... that's how I built the headshell to match the cab

Me too. Good cabs and Bob is easy to work with. They are building a 1x12 combo cab for my Lightning build.

I don’t know how much materials add up to but unless you have all the killer tools to make the builds go fast and easy it seems like a lot of hard work for not much money.

Am I missing something about hardness of that work? If you got the tools, it is like cnc—>glue—>sandpaper—>tolex? Quite doable in quantities, if you ask me. I worked in a furniture company though.

Yeah sourmash are killer and reasonably priced. Plus last time I ordered from him I had it in two weeks. I got one for a ceriatone 2204 that Shea modded for me and it looked like an old jmp 2203. I just really dig that look.

I haven't tried his cabs and I typically go with KSR for speaker cabs but now I'm kinda interested in one of his. I live in NC about 5 minutes away from Splawn and Mojotone is on the east side of the state and I would still go Sourmash.

Check out Sourmash, all the head shells are $300 and below. Bob does great work, I’ve had him do 3 cabs and 2 head shells over the years.
This is what I was going to mention. My brother got a new 2x12 combo cab for a '79 JMP combo that was top notch and damn reasonable.

Is there an email for Sourmash? Just tried using their website contact form but kept getting errors when hitting submit.

EDIT: there's one in the about section
