If I were you . I wouldnt be emailing and waiting for responses. Id be in the car right now on my way to get it. Someone else will buy this immediately if you dont man. Thats a great price

Two of those speakers have been reconed, they have 1777 cone #'s on them, the one pic you showed had 444, which is the correct cone # for the T1281.

As long as they sound good, fine, but just realize you're mixing a 55 and 75 hz bass response cone together, OK? While that's generally not a problem, it may not be the tone you're looking for.

For $350 I wouldn't pass on it, but unless the recones are done right, there could be tone issues. Just want to make you aware of the possibilities you face with this purchase.

Good luck!

Thanks for the detail - once again, much appreciated. I'll give it a listen and see how it sounds.

You are welcome, once again! Don't get me wrong, an H55/H75 mix is what I use in my open back cabs for more bass response, and it works in a 4x12 as well when you really want the "WHOMP" in your tone.

Greetings :)
I picked-up the cabinet today and there were no big surprises. There are two speakers with "444" cones and two with "1777" cones. There are a few snags in the grill cloth, but no major tears, and the Tolex looks like it was on tour with Motley Crue. I literally had only 3 minutes to plug it in and make sure it worked and sounded good, but

A couple of questions for you:
1) Most of the screws for the back panel are missing. Where can I get the correct screws and cup washers? I'm sure I could find something close at the local hardware store, but figured someone probably sells the right ones

2) He had the original Marshall logo, but the left leg of the "M" is broken off. How are the logos attached to the grill cloth? Quite honestly, I didn't have time to look at it...

3) It's an old cabinet. Get it re-Tolexed so it looks good, or say "fu$% it" and just crank the piss out of it. :D

I'll take some photos this weekend and post them so you experts can tell what you see, or don't see. I appreciate all of the comments ad advice. Marshall gear is not my specialty...

^ Antique electronic supply should have the screws and cups. I think the logo is just pressed in with pins. I have seen new logos and they have plastic fingers that go into the baffle board, I don't think they are glued.

You'll want an 11" Marshall logo for that cab, IIRC.

As for the tolex...screw it, I'd just play it as is.

All of the frames are stamped T1281 but two of the cones are stamped "1777" (the other two are stamped "444"). According to Scumback Speakers, that means they have been re-coned and are 75Hz. They are in an X-pattern, so I assume that was intentional after the re-cone. The guy I bought it from said he bought it that way several years ago.

It sounds killer (in the limited time I've had with it...), so unless I can get a pair of T1281/444 speakers to complete the quad, I'll probably just crank the shit out of it - raggedy Tolex and all

The 55hz/75hz combo is my favorite, and can do just about everything.

Check the speaker mounting screws and make sure they are just finger tight. I have seen more than one frame get tweaked by gorilla hands cranking down the screws.

Will do... I hope to be able to spend some time with it this evening. Do the speaker screws look like the correct ones in the photos above?

Oh yeah, old British "cheeseheads".

There is a lock washer as well, and you just want the screw snug enough to hold the speaker in place.

Just to confirm, you're saying that those are the correct screws?

Thanks for posting

+1 That's what I have in my favorite 4x12 right now.

Thanks! Everyone has there strong suit - and knowing the value of Marshall gear is not mine. It's cool to be able to ask questions and get solid advice from the folks that hang out here. Much appreciated
