Seriously... you like a tone like lean meat.
I get drawn to the gristle, must be from listening to too much ZZ Top. :D

Bumping this old thread to ask the OP if he is still using his Haze 40, and if not, any problems encountered in the last 22 months?

TIA,

Lang

She's long gone.
I had an issue with it dying on stage within two weeks of owning it (wasn't tubes, it was a defective amp) I returned it to the store for a refund...not happy.

Thanks for the quick reply; man, that sucks. I did find another thread in which a guy said he'd been rockin' his for over a year, gigs and all, without issue, but, dang, don't know if I want to "go there" now.

Again, thanks for the quick feedback... you might have just saved me some heartache...

I think it was just the 'first run' that left the factory with a problem...the problem was fixed eventually. The newer made ones may be fine, but I certainly don't want to find out...after standing there with my pants down in front of 1000 people.

I have one of the Haze 40 combos and no problems, especially with the upgraded 4-button foot switch. If you czech my YT page there's a head-to-head of the Haze 40 against the DSL401, both stand-alone, and each through a 2 x 12.

Haze is $699 Street, has on-board echo, chorus, vibrato, and due to the size of the box and the speaker, sounds "bigger" overall--that said this is NOT a high-gain amp and, like the old Plexis, needs to be cranked to sound good.

DSL401 is discontinued but WAS $1099 street--no effects, way more gain and tighter overall than the Haze, probably due to the extra pre tube and the EL84's.

Neither sounds "better" than the other--s'all about what you're looking for. If you want Plexi tone on a budget, buy a Haze 40, turn off the effects & loop, and run it into a 4 x 12 wide open. You'll smile.

I tried them when they first came out as I thought it sounded like a cool amp and the price was right. I thought that the amp didnt feel solid or well built. I doubt they will hold up well over time so I would want a warranty. One of the ones I tried had cheap faulty pots right from the factory. It didnt sound bad but not great to me either. Tonewise I much preferred the tone of my old dls401 or my jtm30 to the haze.
