So, did you go with the kitchen sink mod? What are you playing through on the vids? (BE, HBE, C45?) 100w super lead?

Sounded great. I'm mulling over asking Dave to mod a 50w 1986 clone I have coming.

Looks like its the Brown eye from the video. Sounds great.

Wow........
that amp sounds amazing!!
What setting were you in?
Any effects??

Thanks! We've tried so many different guitars and settings, it's really hard to remember what we were messing with when the camera was rolling. We didn't take much footage since the camera mic clips so much.

If memory serves me right, it was the Brown Eye Mode. I think that was a Gibson Flying V using a 500T and we had it into the 1960B cab with 75's at that time. There may or may not have been a Maxon OD808 in front (we use it with and without it), and even if so...no gain and output only on about half, so you don't really know it's there. Settings on the amp were middle of the road. Most everything was on about "5" with the Treble bumped up to about "6." Gain was either dimed on "10" or if the Maxon was in front, down around "7."

We're gonna try to get some better clips shortly. The mic clipping drives me crazy. We're playing a show coming up soon on Wednesday 13's Gunfire 76 Tour, so maybe we can get some video or a soundboard recording of that. I'm sure one of us will use the amp at the gig.

This amp has officially dethroned my old '81 JCM 800 as my band mates favorite Marshall. We can dial it in nearly identical as that old 800, only the 800 is a one trick pony where as there's a shitload more options and tones to be had in this amp.

Man......cant stop watching this clip.
What a KILLER tone!!

I need to get this mod..........soon!

 NICE...yeah,the Brown Eye mod tones can cover alot of ground! having the KS mod, myself,i seem to gravitate towards playing the Brown Eye mostly.something real sweet about it.lots of harmonics ooooozing out of it.gotta luv that Brown Eye

yup,i agree! ...to only have ONE metal tone,Metallica's "Ride The Lightning" tone is IT  ...........................

...funny,i seem to remember doing alot of RTL "rhythm" riffs with my old cammy-jose amp, which dave is gladly "storing" for me in his basement :D

Sounds like it would nail the Killem All sounds too..

Oh definitely. I think there's another vid where we were actually doing some KEA type riffs. I'll see if I saved it, gets really close to that tone too. We dialed in that tone and just felt compelled to play old school Metallica type riffage. In the room, it gets scary close to the RTL tone. The camera just doesn't pick up all the little nuances you hear in the room.

And thanks for the tips, Dave! I'll have to see if we can get some better clips/vids soon. We'll probably be tracking an EP sometime soon, and I'm sure we'll use the amp on some parts of it.

Nice clip this is very helpful to me I like ride the lightning tones as well. Do you have a sat switch, or fat switch and if so were any engaged? There are so many mods I am trying to figure out what I like.

I have the Saturation Switch, but it wasn't on. This was just the Brown Eye Mode. I don't have a Fat Switch, and honestly...I can't imagine I'd ever use it if I did.

Thanks man I appreciate it. Do you like it better with the sat switch on or off for Ride tones without a pedal in front?

For RTL tones, you'd need to have one or the other IMO...either the Sat Switch or a boost. My preference for getting it closest to RTL tones is the BE with no Sat Switch and a boost in front, particularly the Maxon OD808 or other Tube creamer type pedal. The reason being is that an OD pedal like a Tube Screamer is essential to the RTL tone to my ears.

With the OD808 on, it pushes the BE just into that territory and gives it that right amount of squish and attack. There's a certain quality and character to the palm mutes you hear on certain parts of RTL, like the decending palm muted 9-9-9-7-7-7-5-5-5 etc...between the chords on the bridge of FTB. The BE with the OD808 certainly gets you there.

I hear ya on the tubescreamer, or od808 there is something very distinct to it's tone and what it does to a crunchy amp. Thanks your posts have been real helpful.

No problem. for later Metallica tones, I'd go straight with the amp. For KEA and RTL tones, I'd definitely go with with the OD808/TS9. Not because it needs the gain, just because of the character it adds.

Sounds killer man!

Now I want one!

:D Wait until you get to play it, you'll like it more. Maybe we can shoot for a day this week. I'll be in NY this weekend, so that won't work.

haha!

Just checked my calender and I am booked every night except Friday. How the hell did that happen!?

Soon though! I need to hear that thing!
