You win. You have an opinion, like myself, only you must be correct, and I must suck at dialing in amps. There are absolutely no variables, and there is no other possible conclusion that is remotely as logical.

Still won't man up and come to the Ampfest?

The problem I have with those is that with ten million knobs it takes forever to dial anything in.

Are you bringing your Jubilee? That's basically a JCM 800 right?

Once you get past the 20+ knobs on the front and break it into the 4 channels, they're easier to dial in than you'd think.

If I have room in the car I'll bring the Jubilee. Last time it was only on for a few minutes , while Shea and Killertone ripped it up. More than likely I'll just bring the new to me '62 Fender Concert I bought from Worldoftone. Of course with the Fenders he brought I might not even need to bring that. :D I could be completely lazy and just show up with my SG.

I wish I would have gotten there earlier. Killertone has killertaste in music. Mercyful Fate jam is in order next time. Shea can sit that one out. I don't think its his style. We'll sub my friend Will, or maybe Troublehead

Yeah, I actually just quit my job so that I could take a day out of my life to not change my opinion about a guitar amp I've already spent lots of time with and know very well I could care less about. See you there!

My 2 cents...

The JVM is pretty nice for someone whos needs/wants a lot of tones with a very decent onboard reverb. Very nice clean and MIDI capable. All very cool. I found that I was pretty much only boosting the Crunch chanel. Within a few weeks of that I played the VM. Fell in love with the VM. Played 2 more times and realized the VM had the better crunch tone. Clearer with more crunch. Sure enough I boosted it with my Keeley SD-1 and really can't say I regret parting with the JVM. Besides the JVM has a rather loose bottom end. Besides I think I'd rather have a Mk IV than a JVM if I were to go back to a channel switcher. Thats splitting hairs as they both were great amps to own. But I digress... When it comes to Marshalls I basically like boosting them. For me the VM is the better amp.

I agree with it sounding loose. I wouldn't call anything on the JVM muddy, but i did own one for a short time and for heavy rhythm playing it couldn't get as tight and focused as the Mark IV. And with the gains up high it did seem to thin out just a little bit. But since it's a 100 watter it probably just needs some volume. Still, after what i heard from your VM i would take that over the JVM. I still wish we had a Stiletto Ace head to compare to see if it could hang with the Camerons and the VM.

As i said, I'm always going to have a Mark series Boogie, but eventually I'll probably try and get a Marshall. As of now, I'll try and save up for a VM, they make them in 50 watts right.

And FWIW, the VM is 100% all Marshall and sounds as good as loads of great Marshalls i have heard over the years. For the guys saying it sucks, they just haven't heard it in the right setting or they need to get it on a good cab. And yeah, it does shine with a good boost pedal.

Unexpectedly won a Vintage Modern lol, looks like I got a new amp now

That is a great price for that amp!
your going to love it once you dial it in. Zep has one (I think he still has it, he tends to hold onto amps like I do)

congrats man

Is this you? Nice price. I was watching that for the heck of it.

Chris

Yep, didn't expect to win it but I am stoked now, can't wait for the new amp and guitar to come in this week  sounds like its going to be a really awesome weekend for me :D

While we are on topic with the VM, any tips on dialing in a good tone? Or anyone have killer settings already I can use as a starting point? Thanks

This thread is a great example of how people experience things differently and how everyone forms and opinion based on those experiences. And why it's essential to try before you buy. Good luck Cyndicate with the VM...good amp, try and get the matching cab as well. That cab is awesome.

It's kind of a rash generalization but I thought the Vm sounded very Led Zep/Hendrix out of the box... really had that thump that hit you in the chest and sounded like a Marshall..

to me the JVM felt and sounded like a Mode Four with tubes....it was cool but seemed to be cut from the same cloth as the avt series :aww:

Thanks,

I am hoping I like it enough to hold onto it, I usually don't move through a lot of gear and keep most of the gear I acquire. I went to GC today and tried it out with the matching Cab, what speakers are in the cab? Greenbacks? Makes me really want a 4x12 now :aww: GAS never ends

Sweet price on that thing man. What guitar did you buy? As for settings, I would ask yngzaklynch. Love the tone he gets in his video clips.

Ended up getting a Peavey Wolfgang Archtop with a STP

Man I would never let mine go for that much. You got a great deal IMO.

Dan sounds like the VM impressed you. I like it to. I think I need a good niosegate like a Decimater. Pretty much anytime I boost an amp I get some niose so...

Mega thanks for the kind words about my tone.

I think everyone there was impressed/suprised by it. It sounded a lot better than plnety of JCM800's i have played over the years, and the one i owned. I keep forgetting how great i thought Bill's Egnator stuff sounded! Every mode sounded pretty good, very warm sounding. But for the price the VM is great buy after what i heard from it.

Vintage Modern doesnt sound like any JMP Ive heard or played.

Go out and play one again and put it on a good cab. Before Sunday i thought the VM sucked ass but i was proven wrong when Jim fired his up. Shit, it sounded better than the JMP i owned. Everyone in the HOM was impressed.
