Hi all,

Anyone here tested or still rocking a Marshall YJM100? Is it a good one? There are quite a few additional features in it, wondering how reliable these heads are?

One of the best marshalls ever created....
Some say its the ultimate plexi...

Very hard to find and expensive...

Thanks for the comment! I’m a huge Yngwie fan and use my YJM strat > DOD YJM308 or Fender YJM OD -> 1987x or JVM1h quite a lot. Therefore the YJM100 would probably be of my liking!

They have an auto bias circuit that other Marshall’s don’t. They’re actually fairly complex and honestly to me seem more like a novelty.

If I were you I’d go grab the 100W 69 build in the classifieds. It would kick the YJM’s ass stock.

Thanks for the comment! Yes, not too keen on the extras the amp has. Maybe a 1959HW? The thing I like about this is the built-in attenuator…

I had a YJM 100 when they first came out. I also had a 1959HW. I didn’t care for the on-board booster or the attenuation feature. I would rather use booster of my choice in front of the amp. Same with the attenuator. It was not as good as an outboard attenuator. The Bias feature was a good idea. Too bad they didn’t feature it in other amps. Sound wise, without all the features, it was like a good Super Lead.

I just traded for a 1972 50w JMP. The exact amp that YJM has hoarded over the yrs, because they are rumored to have a LOT of natural gain. Well, the rumors are true. This thing is like a 2204 without a boost...not as tight in the lows, but a nice amount of natural gain.
No master, totally stock.
If you want YJM sound, grab a real 1972 JMP 50 and you're golden. The 1972 50 will probably be less $ than the collectable YJM Marshall; although it'll still be around 3K.

I’ve got a ’73 50 Watt JMP. Bone stock. It has hands down the best clean tone I have ever heard from a Marshall - almost ‘Fender-ish’. Warm, full low end, smooth, but plenty of bite as you roll Vol-I up. It is the perfect platform for AIB pedals - Suhr Eclipse, Wampler Pinnacle, Friedman BE. Time based FX on the board after the OD of choice feeding a 4x12 and you could play for days.

The old amps are not easy to come by... The YJM100, in mint condition and with all the case candies, is 2600e.

How did you like that JVM?

How did you like that JVM?
That JVM was a long time ago. When they first came out. I liked the amp while I had it. Sold it for the next best thing. A few years later I had the Satriani JVM. I liked that as well but after a year I sold it. I just got a new JVM410h with the recent sale. Gonna keep it this time.

I now have 2 72s..a 50, and Supertrem. With a good dist pedal, not only do you have great modded Marshall tones but the vol on the pedal acts like a good master.

I took one home for a couple days back when they were released. Thing was HUGE. And so much going on. Sounded ok—I also didn’t care for the on board boost. Didn’t like the size/weight combined with so much new tech. Took it back have never regretted it.
