Matchless HC30 or DC30?

Anyone have experience with one of these? I'm curious how gainy it can get at reasonable volumes. In the ballpark of a 2203/2204? Obviously the tone seems like it'd be very different.

Just looking for something interesting to have as an alternative to my 2204.

Pretty much what fuzzyguitars said... they have quite a bit of gain, but very saggy and loose.
Imagine a C-30 amp being a good candidate to play from The Black Crowes to Queen songs, while a 2204 would be more fit to ZZ-Top to early Michael Schenker, or even heavier styles, if a SD-1/TS-9 is used to push it a bit further.
 
Matchless def makes some amazing sounding amps, the C30 series can def get a little crunchy but they excel at cleaner to a bit of crunch with some jangle to it, really cool amps. They make other amps a little gainier if that's what you want. C30s are def not as hard rock sounding as the 800s though.
 
Thanks guys. One of things I really dislike about living in VA is the lousy gear market (I miss SF for that). No Matchless dealers anywhere close.
 
My favorite Matchless for gainy rock stuff is this one;

I don't think that Matchless is even making them any more, and there's almost no info on them out there. Fairly high gain, plenty tight... 2 X EL34's, class A and tube rectified.
 
I always remember thinking Jeff Martin got a great hard rock tone with his Matchless Super Chiefs when I saw the Tea Party a bunch of times back in Canada.

I used to have a great sounding early one, but traded for two basses that I stiil own.
The only downside of them is the weight. Have you leifted a HC-30 or a Clubman 35?
They are heavy as hell! Now imagine an amp with transformers for 4x the power!!!!
Besides this, they look amazing and sound fenomenal!!
