Mesa Boogie Horiz. 2x12 sounds tiny?

Picked up a MB Horizontal 2x12. But it sounds tiny and not much bass response. Just got rid of a Bogner 2x12 that sounded much fuller. Is this a typical characteristic of the Boogie 2x12 ? I pulled the back off to verify the wiring and all was well. The V30's were working just fine. Was just curious if this was typical of this particular cab.

Bogner have more bass than Mesa but I would not call Mesa thin. Have You cab on floor ? It makes quite a difference in bass response.

Mine sounds very full. Was surprised when I got it

Yeah I have it on the floor with the casters taken off.

Hmmmm.. Im not sure, perhaps there is something up with the speakers. But the tone seems fine, it just sounds quite thin.

Very surprising... I had a horizontal Mesa Recto 2x12... I think it was the compact one. Found it boomy, but at the same time icy picky (with the V30s). This was with a 5150-III 50 watt 6L6 head... Not a good combo in my opinion. I ended up ditching both after a couple of months. I now hate horizontal 2x12s. You have to prop them up on something for them to not be boomy. Vertical 2x12 or a typical 4x12 makes more sense IMO.

Anything wrong with your amp? Guitar pickup wiring loose? Those cabs should be pretty thick sounding.

No the amp is all good. It's actually an Electric Dyne 1x12 combo. It sounds huge in comparison. The 1x12 sounds as big a 4x12 no joke. Maybe that is warping my perception of the 2x12. They sound really good together. But the 2x12 sounds quite small compared to the 1x12 combo on its own.

And you're 100% sure of the impedence of the cab? By measuring tip to sleeve of a cable plugged in?

I am guessing impedence mismatch.

I haven't specifically measured it with a meter. But the 2 16 ohm speakers are definitely wired in parralel. Giving me an 8ohm load. I will pull out the meter and measure the impedance.

You know that reminds me, I had one of these and it had 16ohm speakers in it and I didn't like it either, fits your description too. But Mesa 4x12s come with 8ohm V30s and they sound good and fat. I wonder if that's it?

16 ohm speakers do sound a bit brighter than their 8 ohm variants.

The C90 speaker in OP's combo will fill the room more, especially with the 1/3-open back on the combo.

Is it the standard or compact? I had a compact & couldn't sell it fast enough, had no bottom end.

I have a Recto 2x12 and it sounds massive, sumtingwong with yours I'm guessing

This is what I was going to ask as well.

I compared a compact with the widebody 1x12 last year. The widebody 1x12 sounded way better and much bigger in the low end and the larger 212 was even better. Could not stand the compact version. I was glad I was able to compare them.

It is the standard rectifier cab. Massive certainly isn't and adjective I would use to describe this cab. The only thing I can think is maybe there is something wrong with the speakers? I actually rewired it using a mono input to see if possibly the parallel jack was the culprit. It was the same result. Again, it's not a bad tone it just doesn't have much bass response. That is with an electra dyne which has a ton of low end.
