Run it thru a cab before you give up...

Ran it through 3 cabs. It was good, just not my flavor. This wasn't to think of purchasing...we were profiling and had very limited time so we did the best we could.

I started thinking about this whole subject and started trying a lot of peoples settings from around the internet on my IV. Funny how you can have a amp for 25 years and still learn things about it.
I found a few great sounds I had never used before.
One of the great things about versatile amps is you can change them as your taste and needs change.

Here are my settings.

I use it on Full Power, Eq On, Pentode mode, Simul Class and Harmonics.

Do you guys have 12AX7s or 12AT7s as V4 in your Mark IVs?
On my amp on the V4 Position I currently run a Electro Harmonix 12AT7 and it's even written on the chassis there should be a 12AT7.

I thought this was weird, as usually highgain amps use 12AX7s and the V4 is the second gain stage for the lead channel, so yeah.
It would surely sound more metal with a AX7, right?

I'm the same way with most new Marshall's. I tried a JVM in Sam Ash and ran it through a few different cabs. The thing sounded just terrible to me.

The Mark IVA and Mark IVB use different tubes in the layout. The IVA has a 12AT7 in it.
12AX7 and 12AT7 are not interchangeable in all amps. I do not know if you would do damage to your IV if you switched them. I would ask Mesa about it before doing that....
