Resale on 4x12s is really not that good. I can buy a used 4x12 for the same money as the vertical 2x12. Hell, I've seen the 4x12 cheaper.

I think you're dialing in on the 35, and either a vert 2x12 or 4x12 based on availability. Either will get you much metal.

Yeah, 4x12 cabs are an odd thing. You don't want to pay new prices for one but at least they'd ship for free. When you buy used, you have to find a deal that's local or the shipping will kill you.

While 4x12's are cool, they're not the most practical. And some say they have almost the same footprint as a 2x12, but I disagree when it comes to the vertical 2x12's. I almost exclusively gig with my Mesa vertical 2x12 nowadays and there have been quite a few gigs where fitting a 4x12 on stage would be harder than the 2x12.

Also, especially at home, a 4x12 will be so much overkill. If the prices are the same, get the V:35, 'cause you'll have the footswitchable solo volumes. And I go for a vertical 2x12. And you may wanna swap out one of the speakers (Vintage 30s) at some point for something thicker/smoother sounding; like a G12-K100 or a G12-65.

I did own one of those vertical 2x12's, I did hundreds of gigs with it. That one is a cool 2x12 as it doesn't have that tI often ypical small boxy sound a lot of smaller cabs seem to have. A few times I brought out a 4x12 just to use it but after lugging it around i said fuck that, and the 2x12 got used more. That is ONE 2x12 I would say is worth taking a look at.

Exactly.

4x12's cool and all...but I grew tired of haulin' around that 120lbs Engl beast of mine as well, whereas the Mesa 2x12 is maybe about 65lbs. Almost half the weight, yet the tone doesn't suffer 50%.

Also, those vertical 2x12's have more volume than most typical horizontal 2x12's (which are usually 30" wide, but maybe 18 to 20" high), whereas the Mesa and Engl vertical 2x12's are 30" high, but 24" wide. Which in turn grew my preference for 24" wide heads...thing is... I *sold* my Engl Savage 60 + vertical 2x12 10 years ago to afford my Invader 100+4x12"....Now I want a Savage 60 again, but they're hard to come by. :aww: (and the Diezel D-Moll didn't live up to my expectations, in regards to Channel 3...clean though was one of the best tones ever...especially given it's in a high-gain multichannel amp).
