Known to fail…
I don’t think that’s true.
show me some evidence of this please.
TECH BULLETIN: "Tremoverb" Update
*NOTE: This update does not apply to very early units
having a 120ohm, 10W sandblock resistor near pwr transformer.
The "Tremoverb" amplifier has two 47-ohm, 1/4-watt resistors
(one is located mext to the pair of relays and is connected
to LDR #3 - Location 26-E on diagram below. The other is
next to and connected to LDR #13 - location 14-B below).
Please replace both of these 47-ohm resistors with 220-ohm, 1/2 watt resistors.
Also, the 68-ohm resistor that is connected to LDR's 11 & 12
(location 14-C below) should be increased to 360-ohms.
Finally, please REPLACE LDR's #3 (type 5C4/2), #11 (5C9), #12 (5C9) and #13 (5C4).

*NOTE: LDR's manufactured by "VACTEC"
(has 3 lines of print on top) are more reliable
than LDR's made by "SILONIX" (has single 4-
digit number). If you encounter an amp having
several "SILONIX" LDR's, please call
Mesa/Boogie to arrange a factory repair

I have a head from 99 (near 13,000 serial#) that has not had any issues, but I didn't get it until about 10yrs ago and the owner claimed to be the OG owner and said it was only used at his house very sparingly. It's possible he never even used the footswitching. I've used it and so far haven't had any problems.

From what i understand the defective LDRs were from a couple specific batches, but I'm not sure what serial# ranges they fell under.

What a worthless reply lmfao You are talking about what? Two maybe three resistors on two different parts of the trem circuit of a 30 year old amplifier? How old is this "update" 20 years or more? Actually I just found a manual from the 90s that has this "update"...known to fail lol replacing 6 resistors in a 30 year old amp is called "maintenance" I don't think a lot of you should be dealing with equipment older than a couple years and maybe should keep everything simple like line6 or something so you don't hurt your brains.

My favorite of all Mesas. For what it's worth, if you're in the L.A. area, I'm selling my Tremoverb combo because I haven't used it in years. Like others have said here, it is heavy....which is why I got a MkV:35 in 2018, but my health situation has me out of the game now. (my last gear purchases have been oxygen equipment)

Pretty much any Celestion speaker. Vintage 30 is most popular with it.

For the heavy stuff I use a oversized Mesa 4x12 with G12K85 on the bottom. Vintage 30 on top.

Greenback and H30 70th Anniversary mixed with Vintage 30 I used a lot also.

Nice, I've seen a lot of people using cabinets with Vintage 30. Anybody use the amp with the old school Mesa Boogie EVM cabinets?

Wow, that thing looks good! I'm in the bay area. If i start leaning more towards the combo, I will definitely hit you up! What year is the combo and what type of speakers and tubes are loaded in it?

I have a 2x12 cab with the EVM12L speakers.
They would not be my first choice for rock.

Circling back to this thread since I am still searching for a Tremoverb amp head

Anyone use an antennuator for their tremoverb amp head or combo?

I have used a THD Hot Plate and Fryette Power Station 100.

VFE Standout to drive and MXR M108S in the loop of the PS100 gives a lot of control over the sound.

The Tremoverb like all Rectifier amps likes some volume. It certainly smooths out the highs. But not needed.

Yes, mine was orange like that with green lights.
Such a unique color scheme. I think it it's much better than the usual all black look that Mesa typically uses on every model. I've never come across someone selling that orange leather version.

Ahhh interesting... About when does the amp start to feel like it's really "breathing" in terms of volume or gain? I've only spent a limited amount of time with the amp when I used it in the studio.

I usually run the Masters 9 o'clock - 1 range. I usually bypass the effects loop.

Mine failed. It cost me a money to send it back to them. It would intermittently switch from clean to distorted while playing.

I had one for 15 years, and I certainly don’t miss it. my combo weighed right around 110 pounds on a scale.
