I had one and also a JP2C at the same time ....The TC was ok but nothing special for me. Was not a bad sounding or feeling amp to play but it just lacked character and balls IMO. The JP2C was better in every way but also more expensive .

I got both as well and IMO one amp has nothing to do with the other. Two different sounding amps, each killer in it's own way.

^ Bingo. Wouldn't make much sense to issue an amp that sounds like a Recto, or a JP-2C when those amps do what they do so well. The TC-50, to me, hits at more of the British vibe than anything else. It's definitely unique when compared to anything else I've played with a Mesa badge on it.

Here's the deal. The Triple Crown is a great amp. There is no doubt about it. It's an evolution of Mesa design, and it has incredible tone. For those people who criticize it, they're largely people who seem to expect it to be something it's not. The tone takes a while to get used to. At first, you can hear the tone is real good, but it doesn't seem real flavored. Some may think it's kind of plain. However, after a while, you start to pick up on it's characteristics.

It's awesome with pedals. It lets your pickups, speakers, pedals, etc. really stand out. The clean channel needs no improvement, and it's not bland at all. Where channels 2 and 3 really shine are in the higher gain ranges, but low to mid gain tones are very nice. I really liked how channel 2 sounded with a variety of overdrives. I tried a Bogner Blue, Wessex, OD808, Eternity, and a Wampler Pinnacle. It was so nice playing with those pedals that I was really gassing for the amp.

If I hadn't just bought a Driftwood, I might have gone the Triple Crown direction. It wasn't immediately impressive, but it didn't disappoint me the first time either. The 2nd and 3rd time I plugged into it, I started really liking it. It has a great feel. One thing that I don't like are amps which can't get a liquid feel without a bunch of gain. The Triple Crown isn't like that. It feels really great to my pick hand on all 3 channels.

I find that the low end is more manageable for me than most Mesa Boogies. I REALLY loved the Roadster, and the Lonestar too, but Mesa amps generally are kind of hard for me to dial in with the exception of those two amps, but the Triple Crown is pretty friendly. I'd say that anyone who says the Triple Crown sucks is full of shit and hasn't played one. If someone isn't impressed by it, then that's kind of a stupid statement too because it makes you wonder what they expected from it to begin with.

It's probably not the kind of amp that's going to immediately get you hooked, but the Friedman Smallbox isn't like that either. It kind of takes a few sessions to start appreciating it. 15 minutes in Guitar Center probably won't do it. That said, every time I tried it, I used cheap guitars. I think it's a pretty damned great amp overall.

Played with it for about an hour but after the first 5 minutes told my buddy to send him an offer(on consignment) We just have to wait until tuesday to see if he accepts but to me, its one of the best Mesa's Ive played. Axe Fx might be going up for sale, we shall see

Played with it for about an hour but after the first 5 minutes told my buddy to send him an offer(on consignment) We just have to wait until tuesday to see if he accepts but to me, its one of the best Mesa's Ive played. Axe Fx might be going up for sale, we shall see

My take on the amp is this:

I love it!, however I come from loving and using Marshall tones. To me it is a great clean(channel 1), a refined Marshall sound(channel 2), and a Mesa high gain sound with a little Krang added in(channel 3). It seems that people who gravitate to the classic British tones really like this amp, while Hard Core traditional Mesa fans don't as much.

Classic Marshall amps record great but can be bright and harsh sounding. Classic Mesa amps sound really great playing by yourself in a room but with a scooped mid can get lost in a band mix. This amp seems to me to be the best YET to conquer the divide.

I owned a Bray and yes recorded it sounded like EVH but it is a bright and harsh sounding amp. I have played Mesa's that are amazing by myself and then I can't even hear myself even turned up really loud in a band context. I have always thought why can't someone cut the baby in half and give me the best of both worlds and this amp comes the closest to doing it than anything that has been produced.

I get: A refined Marshall sound without all the ear fatiguing high end and I get the liquidy Mesa sound without disappearing when it is time for a solo.

Sure it doesn't sound like a Marshall or a Mesa and that is EXACTLY why I love it!

Yup, just brought it home today for a cool $1k...in unplayed condition lol. I like getting first dibs and the hookup but I also help them sell a lot of guitars. I REALLY like this amp, still have to get a cab but I just ran the line out into my axe fx and used the Axe as a cab ir loader. You can instantly hear how much better a real amp sounds instead of the models. It really is an amazing amp and produces exactly what Im looking for.
