So please pardon the sloppiness. Here's a cover of Van Halen Poundcake I recorded earlier today with my phone.
I found a backtrack on the tube to play to.
I'd like to get another ear on it. What are your thoughts on tone?

I'm playing through my FJA modded 5150 head w/d/w using my g-force for the pitch shifting. I'm trying to get close to the early F.U.C.K. tone like on the MTV VMAs. If I offset the pitch more I make it sound more like his "wetter" tone circa Mid 90s.

Thanks in advance!

No responses...does that mean non of you liked the tone I'm working on?

Just trying to get some feedback from a bunch of "tone heads"

;-) ;)

Good god that was great man!!
I never mess with effects. But you seemed to nail it to me

And yes. FJA modded 5150s rule. Owned one for years. My main player was a FJA modded Dual rec.
loved that amp.

Thank you sir! Yea Jerry at FJA is awesome. I had him mod my 5150 over 10 years ago and it rips. Even when I play it as a normal mono rig, sounds great.

Sounds really cool!

Thank you!

Yea I'm pretty happy with it. I'm playing it pretty low volume-wise. The Hot plate does a good job of attenuating the signal. But if I crank it up to my normal stage volume it sounds better.

It's funny how much phase makes a difference. For example I'm just playing it in my basement. You almost can't get the full effect of the pitch shift in real stereo (L/R) with the staggered (pan) delay.
It's a nightmare many times to have a sound guy try to mic my rig if they don't have any experience with w/d/w rigs. LOL

I actually bought my slave amp and 2x12 cabs from @sgill72 years ago. He has a really good ear for tone. His rigs always sound good too.
