Metropoulos Metro-Plex MK-II

I had one for a few months. It’s an amazing sounding head, but for some reason I had a hard time cutting through the mix when I took it to band practice. I had to enable the internal boost to get it to poke out of the mix and get the cut I wanted. Otherwise it felt pretty spongey to play. Maybe it was user error? I’m not a novice to dialing in amps, but for some reason the DVL-1 gave me trouble in a mix.

It sounded “holy shit” good on its own. It had a bass bloom to it after you hit a power chord that made my jaw drop. I only really liked the ‘68 and ‘68 mod channels. The 2 lower gain channels were pretty meh in comparison.

George makes amazing stuff.

I stayed on the 68 mod channel myself and also used the built in boost turned down low around 2. Seemed to give the amp some push and also when turned down low, a nice mid boost too. To make up for the gain I then used an SD-1 into it. Sounded great and responded great. I only sold it because the Bogner XTC blue channel is 2203 inspired and the metroplex 68 mod mode was more 1959 inspired. My ears prefer the 2203.

I’ll say one thing though. Only amp I’ve ever owned besides the mark III Coli that was as loud as the Bogner was that metroplex. That amp would peel paint off of the walls.

Good for George I'm glad he didn't close up his shop. He knows plexi's better than anyone.:2thumbsup:

I imagine the 12301 version of the amp is pretty much along the lines of what Dave Friedman and John Suhr revealed years ago. George is very innovative with his amps using that frequency spectrum analyzer. I hope it generates some sales for the man, I know covid damn near wiped out his business.

Suhr's SL68 also sounded good so George is a little late to the party but good for him regardless.......
