The clips of these are sssssssssick.
That's a lotta shit talkin about being a plexi killer.....only way to find out, ship it to me and I'll compare it to my 72.Got this last week.
Mark went out of his way to make sure I'd be happy with the build.
This is the Red Circuit Model.
Killer gain that's on par to the Fortin, The EQ goes way beyond what I was expecting,
Small moves bring the tone shaping to a new level. A Lot of gain tone options as well.
Jimmy Burkard does the amp a solid with his demo videos.
Hats off to Mark at MGL.
There is no honeymoon phase with this amp as I trusted him to build me a well thought out plexi killer.
I got EXACTLY what I wanted.

On second glance, looks more like a 2203 killer since it's got a preamp gain knob. Congrats brutha!
I know he isn't everyone's fav player, but this doesn't sound very smooth to me.The lenz amp does have more of a traditional bite and presence to the base tone... the mgl seems a little more smooth for legato players and not really for raw hard rock and punk rhythms.. could also be the mic positioning so ?
The older amp that Lenz modded was a stock 2204 circuit and really has nothing to do with what we are building currently. He did a great job on that one! I get what you're saying about compression, but I can assure you that the current amps have far less compression than most of the modern amps that are comparable. Many of them have another preamp tube and at least 1 more stage of gain. We still use 3 preamp tubes. Also, Using 2 NOS mustard caps in the first 2 positions helps for a more traditional Marshall voicing and the clarity and bite in the upper mids. The speakers Reza used in that demo were Alnico Creambacks, and IMO they have a darker and more compressed nature. Celestion speakers are what the amp was voiced for and they produce a more open tone to my ears.It sounds good... the level of compression is really what I'm referring to.. if an amp has a little too much it can mess you up if you want to do fast clear runs, picking all individual notes.. probably the reason someone like malmsteen never used high gain amps.
