Thanks man!! what sound are you asking about? many tones in that song. PM me & i will let u in on some secrets..

Oh, now you will share your secrets Huh !!!!

Ch. 2- is a beast. Once you get rid of the mindset that gain equals tone and lose some of the compression
it's a HUGE sounding channel. As with Ch. 2 on the VH4, with a good clean boost like the BB for a switchable kick one could spend
the entire day on one channel. It just breathes differently. Bigger and wider with some extremely nice harmonics and touch sensitivity.
To me, it also reacts differently with the tone controls. It's got a bottom end that has a "Fair Warning" vibe.

hahaha! my secrets arent rocket science....well mostly.  u know i will share with anyone. my mom taught me well.

when i stop playing its like the entire mix falls out. not because of volume but because the herbert sits right in the middle of the mix.

This is caused by an amazing guitar player taking a break, any amp would do well here!!

no no im serious, i have used countless heads on stage. mark 4, splawn quickrod, dual rec, vetta, evh 5153, vht pittbull, and even our drummer says he feels more comfortable when i have my diezels. he just says it sounds way bigger. i have to agree, i have never been a guy that scoops mids, but again i dont typically like upper mid voiced amps. the 3 best amp companies i have found is the suhr (pt-100, albeit a bit upper mid bark) the bogner xtc (yeah it kills) and the diezels (herbie and einstein please  )

maybe its my choice of guitar that works so well with diezels but i really have found a nice combination in my gear that consistently delivers that "big" sound that i like.

sorry to hear about you guys not having success cutting thru live, i would be happy to help in any way if any of you need it!

I have to chime in on the Herbert "can't cut in a mix" thing. I've used my Herbert in 3 bands now. From C# standard doom to drop D nu-metal to standard tuned goth/industrial. All 3 bands have been 2 guitar bands and the other guitarists have been using anything from Engl to Mesa Rectifiers to Vox AC30s and my own Fender Silverface super reverb. Right now my other guitarist is running his AC30 and my Super Reverb in stereo and he boosts the living hell out of his mids.

To top it all off, I almost always use the mid cut. I generally have the intensity around 9 and the level at 12, so I'm not scooping the tone much, but it just feels like it tightens everything up a little to me. Treble and Mid are up about 1 o'clock on all three channels, bass a little below noon. Deep and presence are adjusted depending on the room, but usually hover at or a little above noon. Ch 2- and Ch 3 have the gain around noon.

And with all that, in all 3 bands, my Herbert has dominated the mix. Each of the drummers have commented how well they hear me in the mix and complained when I don't use the herbert. My current bassist is always making cracks about my amp being a beast. I have to turn the volume down so as not to bury the other guitarist and the bassist. When I stand right in front of the amp, the volume is so low I occasionally feel like I'm getting lost (might want to add, I'm using a straight cab), but when I move out in to the middle of our rehearsal space, there I am, dominating the mix. It's unbelievable. It just cuts right through.

This is not meant to discount anyone else's experiences, just wanted to give the other side of the argument, I guess. I have had more people come up to me after shows talking about my tone than I ever have gotten before, and most of those people have no idea what a Diezel is, so it's not just the gear heads. I have gone through tons of different speaker pairings and cabs to get what I wanted (I won't bore you with the litany of that), but there is nothing in my experiences over the past few years with my Herbert, either in rehearsal or live, that says this thing has any issues cutting in a mix. Maybe it's just me or the pickups, speakers and EQ combination I use, but this amp kicks some major ass with or without a band.

I made a similar experience, or our singer.
I´m standing in front of the amp, he is quite far away but far from the sound beam.
He´s pretending he can always hear me.

I was playing with someone else last week that had a Splawn and with the mid cut on the Herbert seemed to get lost a little. The amp seemed to cut through better with the mid cut off.
I guess that's when I first noticed it.

How do you guys run the Herbert in a band setting?

you should try playing out on each others amps for a set and see if that problem persists or not. Like others far wiser than I have alread said, there are so many variables in acheiving a great live tone it might not be the Herbert. On the other hand, if it is the Herbert and you want to get rid of it, I'll give ya 100 bucks right now - sight unseen. J/K :D

Thanks for all the input.
I started playing with the intensity turned back to 9:00 and it made a big difference.
I think I had the intensity too high.

This is a cool website
