Sent a few questions about mods for the SLO to the tech email address yesterday. Mike called me today and went over a few of the mods and what they are. HOW FREAKING COOL IS THAT???!!!!!!!

Basically he clarified the mods:
The Warren Hynes mod is so warren could roll the overdrive back to 3-4 as he likes it that way and doesn't get ice picky. The amp gets brighter as you turn the overdrive back. Ok Want because I do not crank the overdrive.

The SRV mod has a slight mid scoop. He built an amp for SRV and he didn't get much time with it before his death, unfortunately. Ok want

Demartini mod he said doesn't exist. He played a stock SLO and people claimed it was the SRV/Demartini mod Interesting

Depth mod is good if you play a drop tuning other than that is isn't really needed.

Its too bad these mods can't be made switchable, or can they?

He puts the switches next to the bright/crunch switches so if you see an amp with 4 switches to the left it has mods....i believe

Talked to Mike a handful of times. Such a great guy! They've built a few amps for me with custom options. Soldano only has 4 or 5 people, including Mike, that work at the shop. Very small operation and the original "Boutique" amp company.

S.L.O. (not "slow")

* Depth, when set to "zero" is OUT of the circuit so the stock SLO tone is still available.
* Warren Haynes mod just removes the "bright cap" from the Overdrive's preamp side. Really is NOT worth it!
* All other mods/options have switches and are out of the circuit when off.

Hope that helps!

Yeah Siri on my iPhone has sent some interesting text to my girlfriend and other people. :gethim: Sometimes I send her a text to see how she reacts and then blame it on Siri

FWIW, I had an SLO with a bunch of mods, but actually preferred it stock. One of the mods I would want done to it would be a depth mod that could add more low mids, instead of low end. This was my biggest gripe with the SLO...well that and the placement of the loop, but I guess that's integral to the sound of the thing...

For the warren hayes mod instead of removing the bright cap I like reducing it from the stock 1000pf to 500pf.

I'm going to use the Direct/line out instead of the loop.

As far as mods, I know my tone pref. and feel I would like the SRV/Haynes mods.

The WH mod is supposed to be simple to do yourself, just clip the bright cap. Of course the switch allows you to revert back to stock. I didn't see what the fuss was about...seemed to make the amp dull.

If I get a stock SLO and send it to him for one mod I might as well just get both since I'm paying for shipping etc.

I hear ya...I'm just saying that sometimes the grass seems greener...

Jamie... how close are you to getting one? just waiting til one pops up for around 2100 ? I'll keep my eyes out for you.

Yeah 2100-2300  Im good with a bone stock, any year. will spend more if it has the SRV/Haynes mod. :) Thanks

Great story that he personally called to answer questions directly. I'm sure there's a need for mods under certain circumstances but crikey, I don't feel like these things need any more "enhancing", pretty amazing in stock form! OK, the loop is touchy (not having any issues w/mine thus far, using a Flashback at the moment and it sounds incred).

Yeah answered the phone and asked for me and said he was Mike Soldano... If I hadn't heard his voice before on video I might have questioned it. He didn't have to call...I didn't ask for a phone call...anyone there cold have just emailed me back and I would have been happy. He remembered a friend of mine "Jimmy Davis or Jimmy haha" from Jimmies Chicken Shack and said he has been a long time customer. He didn't rush me off the phone, asked me some questions like what kind of guitars I played, told him where my bass and drive are set on my MK III and 20th X. Seemed surprised I had the bass down so much lol and just talked about a few other things not related to me at all.

So that right there is TOP customer service in my book. Ron from RJM is the same way and that is why I will spend my hard earned cash on any RJM product that I think I need even if there is a cheaper version from other companies like the Y-not I just bought yesterday.

How do you Soldano guys like the JCA22H?

I think it's a great amp but it is slightly different, for the better in my opinion <ducks and runs> I imagine it's closer to the hot rod 25.

Cool. It doesn't need to move mountains, but $400 clams is a good price if it's a good little amp.
