Ejecta,im glad you agree with me took alittle time but that's ok....

It's always fun watching people like you who live in another reality flop around. Thanks for the entertainment.

So if Eddie was using a distortion box on Van Halen one you're saying that he was clicking off a fuzz for the verses of running with the devil when it cleans up? I'm not buying that at all.

Ejecta, come on lets not turn into a child that didn't get his cookies, its Christmas Eve are you going to put your cookies out by the fireplace tonight for Santa.......

I'll make it plain...... I don't give a shit what Jose supposedly told you. I've with my own two ears heard a stock plexi get the same amount of gain Ed got on the first album. I trust my ears and first hand experience over some "nitro" dude on a guitar forum claiming to have talked to an old man who could have been telling you the truth or just as easily been blowing smoke up your ass just for shits and grins.

The funny part is people have posted clips on here proving that it is possible but yet you and Snookie refuse to acknowledge it.

Here's a reminder.

AWESOME tone man!!!

Thorny, Edwards tone doesn't really clean up that well on VH1,cmon man..Edwards is using his volume knob to turn down.

Ejecta, the entertainment is coming from you, your flopping around trying real hard to understand, but your leaning give it time a good ear cleaning will help......

Ejecta the first clip doesn't sound like VH1 and the second clip isss the ISO clip of running with the devil which is on the first van halen album there you go now compare.......

That first clip is mine. If you were to go back and read any of my posts I never said it sounded like VhI. But I listened to VhI yesterday for reference. To get that sound with my amp would be very easy. Change back the bright cap value to stock, turn the amp from 7 to 10 and crank the presence. Add the variac for the sponginess and tune my guitar a halfstep down. There is more gain in my plexi, but I like how it sounds where I run it.

If you have recorded in a studio with a tape based format, a ton of gain can be added anywhere from the mic pres to compressors and even the tape machine itself.

And you guys keep saying about this big difference in sound between VHI and II etc....how many bands sounds stay exactly the same from album to album? Get the mic in a slightly different spot, new tubes or different speaker, anything can change it a ton.

The impression I got is that Ejecta posted clips that he thought sounded like VH1,the second clip is the ISO track of running with the devil from the first van halen album(VH1).The gain/distortion is different from the first clip to the ISO track.

Don't waste your time George..... just let 'em live where it's all safe a warm.

Keep telling the story of how an old man blew smoke up your ass and blew out your ears. I like that one.

Ejecta, you have no experience on this subject and it shows by your childish remarks sad but true.....It wasn't a story from Jose, sorry that you cant understand.

I posted that clip to show how much gain a basically stock plexi has. The gain is pretty close to what I hear. Only difference is VhI has more upper mid crunch. If I put the stock bright cap value back and crank the presence the rest of the way, there is that. Plus my amp and treb/ mids being at 7 vs 10 will cut the gain a bit.

If he dimed all his controls, variac'd / echo plex, high gain pickup plus a distortion pedal....well that would be way more gain than VhI....I bet all that went on was he used his reg rig and they would up the mic pre at the board or added gain from an outboard compressor.

It doesn't matter to me, it's not a tone I care for. Just my observations..

Also Pauly keeps mentioning why use 6l6 instead of el34's in his sig amps....well since those old 6ca7's are tonally in the same family as 6l6's and if he really thought his best tone was a Bandmaster...Hmm I don't seem to remember any old Fenders using el34's...

it's all good, I am very lucky to have found that amp many years ago! One of the good ones for sure. Everyone has a tone they are searching for....sometimes it's your personal vision, sometimes it's someone else's. Whichever it is, all we can do is hope to find it. :)

Edward went with 6L6 due to the fact of Edward liking 6CA7s which are a pain to find original Sylvania 6CA7s unless you go with new production EH or JJ.Yes the 6L6 is closer to the 6CA7 Edward didn't really like the EL34s except he did like the telefunken EL34 for a very brief time which he talked about in a interview.

Ejecta you started with the middle finger thing because your frustrated when it comes to this subjest so you have to resort to your childish remarks. Its all good, like I said your learning it will take you sometime.

Yeah that one in your clip has some great tone. You snagged a good one and that SG has a nice woody vibe to it too.

A good cranked plexi has to be one of my favorite tones.

Ejecta,You did go back and check its obvious, sad you still haven't grown up, I think Santa's going to pass your house for being a rotten kid, so sad.........

6L6s have NOTHING in common with 6CA7s...a 6CA7 is an American /heavy duty version of an EL34, and it was used purely because it was the only tube that would take the abuse he put his Marshalls through and still stay alive.
