The head came stock with 3 EH12AX7 tubes and would like to put in some new tubes, but don't know the function of each tube.
Can anyone tell me which pre-amps tubes do what in this head?

Thanks,

wish my Mod100 looked like that....it was bent upon arrival...about 4-5 degrees to the left....not brad's fault in the least...i hate shipping stuff. good stuff always gets damaged :(

EEEKK.....My Lynch Box 100 head is in transit as we speak..........Hope it's going to be OK>>>>>>>>>> :gethim: :gethim:

yeah

i had a modded rm100 that was completley destroyed by ups!

must have ddropped it at least 6 feet to cause that kind of damage.

Do you guys change the preamp tubes right away before you even get to know the gear? I would think you would want to play a new amp for a while before you start "fooling" around with it.

I'm personally more apt to change power tubes first as I'm such 6550 guy. But I only change one item at a time. For me I change the tubes in v1 of te modules first and foremost if I chAnge anything. I'm still running the stock sovteks in my mod50 and 100. When I got the mod100 I used it with everything stock for quite a bit to figure it out.

When I started this thread, I mentioned that I was replacing the stock EH12AX7 tubes that came with this head. I have of course tinkled with this tube or that tube (like everyone else) and have always come back to what came with the amp ( and modules) I guess because my ears have become used to a certain sound that I hear in my head and love.

PS I bought this head December 2005 and is the longest I've ever owned an amp without a desire to buy something else!

Eric

Hope that it can be fixed to your satisfaction! I would be crushed if that happened to mine.

I bought my Mod50 off of JKD, so if he didn't change the 12xa7s then I guess the only thing not stock would be the GC 6L6 tubes. It is a 2008 amp. I wouldn't mind knowing what stock tubes come in each of the Egnater amps. Maybe a sticky of what each amp is shipped put with, for those of us that have bought used Egnater amps.
TOL MICA 100, Mod100, Mod50, M4 pre and any other amps and pre amps you have made. That would make it easy for those of us that would want to replace or have the tubes as it was originally. Also if you put out a product then later changed the type of tubes and why. Thanks!

I usually try the module for a while with the stock sovteks. After I have a reference, I experiment. Funny thing is, aside from using JP5751 in some of the modules, I find myself going back to the Sovteks a lot. They just work well.

in my mod100 i had it shipped with 6550's in spite on jeff telling me that i shouldnt because of reliabilty issues.

i have not changed em at all.

in fact, i tried lots of different preamp tubes in all the modules and like the stock tubes for the majority!

good job.
