Mod50 vs Renegade

I know what you mean, I use an Axe-Fx which sounds great direct through a good PA, but doesn't have the same feel as playing through a tube amp. I noticed this especially on the clean channel of the Renegade. A strat, little modulated delay=Sonic Bliss! Very dynamic! Although, the Axe comes close when I use it through my VHT 2/50/2 and a cab. Having both is nice! ;-)

I was playing my HD500 into the DT50 the other night and having fun with the SLO patch I use. Threw on some delay and was really having fun. I have been a straight into the amp player for so long...I really think I just don't know how to use effects right.
I would like to stay the course with the HD500, but I think I'll see how I can integrate it with the Mod50 for when I want to play with effects. Keeping the HD500 gives me a back up if I ever gig again plus the added effects and such. If I end up playing at my church it would be a much more logical tool to use too so it has a lot of upsides.
The DT50 is cool too...on its own or with the HD500 to really take it off. But it seems like over kill and now I can't help see it as $$ for modules. Crap, the addiction is coming on.

It really never ends and there's no cure. But at least you're not alone in this. Ha!
I'm not too familar with the HD500, but I think you can bypass the amp sims and just use the effects with your Renegade. Go with the 4 cable method, so all your overdrives, wah, phaser can go in front of the amp and put all the time based effects like Delay, chorus in the loop. That ought to be nice.

Are the Egnater modules still made? I am having a hard time getting a clear handle on that. If you google it a live Egnater site for the modular stuff does come up. You can't find it from egnater.com though...you have to put the /main extension on. On that site it implies there are some dealers out there. The only one that I could really find anything on was Indoor Storm and on their site it looks like they have some modules and even a new Mod50 w/2-3 week wait. A bit confusing.

Yes Bruce has always hand made the modules in the US and you can email him to request anything you like (well okay, more likely afford) I think they are about $385 + shipping each. Bruce's email address is in the new M4 thread :)

List of modules is here:

http://www.egnater.com/modules.html

AFAIK Bruce is not making the Mod50 / Mod100 amps, you can get him to mod a Randall RM100 and he was making a small run of M4 preamps of which I think he made some spares - again email him if you are interested in either and he'll let you know what's on offer. Mod50 / Mod100 do come up on the classified both here and on the MTSForum (http://mtsforum.grailtone.com) too, worth checking both if you’re looking, thought it sound like your sorted for the amp :)

Welcome to the addiction!!!

Can't speak for the Renegade vs MOD50.

I own a MOD100 and have gone thru the module swapping extravaganza as well. Decided to stick with the DLX/SL2X & EG5 and couldn't be happier.

I've owned this amp longer than any other amp I've ever owned.

There is no comparison. Mod all the way. M4 is preferred. The difference is negligible and you get 2 more slots.

Yeah I actually had some email exchanges with Bruce about it today. Sounds like they are gearing up for a run coming up in May. I am not sure I will be ready for that batch, but we will see.
And yes I am all set on the amp...well, paid for and now waiting for NAD!

My opinion is that you can't really compare the "sound" of the amps to each other because the MOD50 doesn't really have a tone of it's own. The idea is that you choose the channels so you make it sound the way you want. There is a combination of modules that probably come close to the Renegade's two channels but the MOD50 has endless other choices, too. If you are the kind of player who likes to experiment with many tones, the MOD50 is an excellent choice. If you are more of a "plug and play" person, a more conventional model like the Renegade is great.

Point well taken. I feel confident in my choice to go the Mod50 route. The flexibility to get different quality tones by only swapping modules is inviting. My needs seem to find a way of changing back and forth and into new directions over time and if I can settle down on the amp flipping that would be good. The theory works for me at this point any way.

Please clarify, are more mod 50's being built? or are they out of production indefinately?

I bought a used one from a forum member.

The MOD50 and MOD100 are not in regular production, but I have seen where Bruce has built a few here and there posted about it on the forum. I believe more recently some M4s were offered.

My Renegade, while not the best amp Ive ever had, is the amp I'm the most happiest with that Ive ever been....
I'm hoping that Bruce is working on a Renegade mkII that has more Fender twang in Channel One....maybe at the flick of a switch....I keep looking at a Fender Blues Deluxe....then play the Renegade with my modded GE-7 in the loop and the thought is gone....Bruce does build amps with monster tone....

But....if I could get my hands on a Mod50 I'd have one in a heart beat....I keep looking on eBay....I want the one with three slots....was that the 100....
Was very tempted by the last batch of M4s....Come on Bruce when are you going to start selling your Modular Amp stuff in the UK....k.j.

I took the modular plunge about 5 years ago - and am so happy that I did
I went the M4 route at first because I had prviously been an ADA MP1 user and racks are my preferred way of doing stuff
I did get a Mod50 as well but it doesn't get the use that the M4 racks do.

If you take the plunge you may end up going one of two ways
Having a head or combo and maybe 3-4 modules which cover all your needs

OR

getting obsessive about it and owning them all and then seeking out modders to make alternative modules for you.

I went the latter route (and it is certainly fun).

My latest batch of modded units came in today

I played a 2 night gig in Orlando in June. The backline was supplied by the company that hired our band(we are from Arkansas). I have a renegade 112 combo and the Renegade head and 212 tourmaster cabinet. I love the renegades and that is what I asked for in my backline. Instead I was supplied a Bogner Shiva 212 combo. Nice amp! I was thoroughly expecting to be blown away by the Bogner...you know run home sell my stuff and order a Shiva etc. While the Shiva was very nice...it was not better than the Renegade to my ears. In fact, I thought they were very similar. Both amps have a nice thick juicy overdrive and wonderful clean tones. I think it speaks well for the Renegade. You can buy 2 Renegades for the price of a Shiva. Maybe they didn't have a Renegade handy and chose the closest thing?!
