I've never really dealt with Music go round but they had a guitar I was interested in buying. Only problem is that don't like making sales :lol: :LOL: I made a reasonable offer on a guitar that was priced way too high especially for the condition and the guy tells me they don't deal. A losing business model if you ask me. Anyone ever have a good experience with them??

To be fair, they did have some stuff that was priced aggressively for what it was but nothing I was into...
 
That always makes me thing someone on the shop has their eye on it.
 
From what I can tell they price high and drop based on how long it sits to ensure the highest sale price.

This is irritating to those like you and myself who know the actual value and want the item right when they get it. I have found good deals on items there that I need but more often they are priced at the ceiling.

The store here has went out of business...

This seems to be the strategy of Guitar Center as of late as well. Will they be going as well?

I miss the days of the local stores.

Anymore I only visit Guitar Center to try items and then buy online...
 
I think it's location based, as well as on what it is you want. I have a store I buy online from as they're quite far from me....called awhile back and spoke to the manager and he gave me a deal on a guitar I wanted. He's hit me up a couple times since with deals better than what's online at their store for similar guitars...
 
I've bought a TON of stuff at my local Music Go Round, they deal...I never felt like I over paid for anything. Love my store.
 
They are franchised...so each is different...but my brother just went through this with a jackson bass. Offered them only like $50 less, as he did some research, and they said no. He said well, lick em! And bought somewhere else.
 
Interesting. I'm going to get to the manager tomorrow and try to talk some sense into him. It's a high-end guitar that's priced about $400 higher than an identical model in mint condition. This one has changed pickups, changed tuners, scratches in the top, chips and dings all over it. A beater but a cool beater...
 
The one in my area likes to play hardball as well. I've seen them charge more for a used guitar that was a mile down the road new...and cheaper. I don't shop there. I'd rather go to GC.
 
The one here went out of business. All they carried was overpriced cheap crap.
 
Some deal better then others, I know of a couple stores here in the Twin Cities area that are terrible. They wouldn't deal until it has sat for a while, period. Just this weekend I tried to buy a beat up guitar, they wouldn't move on the price at all. It was overpriced, I just wanted a fair price based on the poor condition. Still a cool store, but they can be difficult. Whats worse is selling your gear, they will lowball you bad, also they'd rather buy then consign. Literally, 30-40% current value of an item. Your better off selling on CL at ridiculous rates or a pawn shop if you need fast cash.

This is what I don't understand...I have seen some nice gear posts were people say i.e. $800 today or trading in at GC/etc. It's like really? Then why not put it up for $500? Cuz these stores aren't giving that. If i needed fast cash, i'd still rather hook someone up a bit than give it away. :confused:
 
I guess its there way of getting the most out of the gear they sell. The one thing some of these places fail to understand is that those guitars tend to get really beat up the longer they sit. Probably more a pawn shop problem, but it happens, and sometimes it's a bummer.

I found a clean Gibson Explorer 84 reissue, it was priced high, compared to what they were going for at the time. I made a case, was denied, not a big deal, not that into it. But, 3-4 months later it looked like hell, tons of chips and dings. It's sucks only because of how clean it was originally, yes it still played well. But it could have been sold at a fair price, and would still be in good shape. BTW, this was not a Music go Round, it was a pawn shop, but you get the idea.

I've dealt with a few of them in the mpls area. Just like GC they have a nice inventory of used gear, and I will if desperate get a quote on an item I have to sell and see who gives me the better deal, GC or one of the Music go Rounds. If they give me 70% of the going rate on eBay I usually sell it to them. Funny though..I was looking for an LP clone for my kid...Music go Round in PA has an Agile for 299. But you can buy a new one shipped to your door for 235....
 
I had a great deal with mine. Cleaned out my parts drawer and brought in a boatload of pickups, pickgaurds, rings, 20 trem arms, etc. Just everything I had in drawers that was either taken out of other peoples guitars and replaced with good stuff, or just excess crap I had that I could not sell nor would I ever use. Dropped the box on the counter and the guys said it would take a while to look everything up. I said take your time.

Half hour later he offers me $250 store credit or $150 cash. I took the cash.

They went out of business most likely because this is what they did regularly. Bought stuff that would never sell. I wouldn't care if they gave me 10% of what is was worth. It's not worth anything if you can never sell it.

Still wish they were around as I have amassed some more junk I'd like to dump.
 
They had a killer Gibson V with a hockey stick headstock at their Colorado store. I begged, literally begged them to hold it or let me put money down over the phone so I could pick it up in 3 days when I drove through Denver... I even offered to throw another 100 plus buy the manager lunch... No deal . First and last experience with them.
 
I have Bought a couple nice guitars and an amp at my local Music Go round. Just have to know what you want and your price point. I usually don't sell so no Idea on that. Some guitars just play and sound right and I buy them as long as they are not outrageous. The instrument business is a tough one.

I've always done well with MGR, and getting to know the people working there is always a plus, as is "loyalty"...whatever that means. :lol: :LOL:

They are usually very honest and forthright. That said, they ARE a business and need to make something to keep the doors open and lights on - you can't buy and sell for free, ya know? :thumbsup: Some stores are better than others, but all-in-all, I've always been treated fairly by them.
 
They function largely on used items. Since they are not dealers for any lines even items they get that are new cannot be sold as such. IE no warranty etc unless the mfg allows int to transfer etc. They just opened one here recently. A lot of the inventory is low end stuff or good products that are now outdated. If you want a sweet ADAT setup for example they are your store. Need some old PA cabs, they are money. Price wise they are typically on target to high in my opinion. The biggest thing they do that is bad for is setting the item on top of the price tag in the counters. Its so consistent it HAS to be intentional and it annoys the hell out of me that I have to track down a minion to get a price. Since they are yet to have a deal in the store I can find I don't bother asking.

The problem with their business model is that either the guy trading in has to take a beating or the guy buying has to over pay for them to survive. A much larger percent of guys know what their gear is worth than ever before. They are not going to take a beating unless they are in dire straights and no one is going to overpay with reverb and ebay as viable options.
 
I've tried to haggle with a few, but they wouldn't move at all. Just seems to be their thing.
