came across this while doing a search on youtube for boost vids...

anybody have any experience with one?

I have the MXR Classic Overdrive which according to MXR, is the exact same circuit/sound, but it's made in China. It sounds fantastic for boosting and for a nice classic rock crunch or lead tone. Honestly, it's replaced a few of my more expensive pedals including the TS-9 and Wylde OD. To me, it's like a TS808 but with a more natural amp-like sound and more grit.

thanks for the info! i dig the maxon OD808 in front of the amp, but this one has me pretty curious as well

Yes, they are a cool pedal. As mentioned, very amp like. I did not use it as a boost, but an overdrive. The overdrive was very natural and useable. Currently GC has the China ones going for $39.99. They also have a distortion. It looks just like the OD, but is a darker green. I tried to find some more info on it at GC site, but there is nothing. I am not a fan of boost pedals, OD, and distortion, so I sold mine. I have to admit I miss it. i most likely will pickup one of the Chinese ones.

Only bad thing about the Chinese version is that the switch is nearly impossible to push down! Seriously, when I step on it I have to lean into that button, and I'm about 185 lbs.  Feels like I'm gonna break the damn thing!

I contacted MXR about this and they say that they chose that specific switch because of it's strength, but it seems to me that eventually it'll break through the circuit board. I'm sending mine to MXR to get a better switch installed (for free).

I have one, very much like a TS but with more gain on tap. Adds a great dose of mids to your sound, but not an overwhelming amount.

There is an internal switch that turns the pedal into the ZW OD.

yeah, I saw that on another forum..lol...even though the website said they didn't ahve any, the local GC around here had three of the classic ODs for 39.99..saw them sitting on teh counter as I was waiting to get some new picks..so I figured what the hell..I'll give it a shot....most people I've talked to said it's just like the GT OD which is what I'm really interested in..so if that's the case? $40 ftw!!! I haven't taken it out yet but I'm sure it's more cheaply built..I did check out the switch like glassjaw said..seems it has to be pressed down a good deal to get it to switch...but I don't forsee it as a problem..if I find it's wayy too cheap and won't even handle the rigors of madison square basement, I have 30 days to return it and I'll get the GT OD on das evilbay....
