my Eminence vs Celestion rant

yep, i'll agree with the motor/tranny analogy, and partly why i didn't get too carried away trying to describe the speakers.

most of my rant is based on playing a Mesa Stiletto Trident as it's the only one i've run most of the Celestions with. though did run the V30's with a Recto and a little 40watt XXX with the Greenbacks. with Greenbacks i ran the Stiletto on the 50watt setting and then together with another cab on the 150watt setting.

the Greenbacks don't get along with the Stiletto at all for me, low power, clean, etc.etc. tried all kinds of settings? guess i will admit that they seemed to get along with the 40watt XXX. Maybe i need to see how the Greenies like the Triple Rec?

for the Eminence, i've run Triple Rec, Stiletto Trident, Splawn QR, VHT 100/CL, Peavey Butcher, and the 40watt XXX.[/quote]

Ok, first, im still too stupid to get a sense of the SPECIFIC amp/speaker combo(s) were talking about, what you love/hate, and for that I apologize... im sure im just too hammered.... first, the fkn Trident needs to open up, IMHO, 25's just wont do. Tried it at the shop, 2 yrs back, 30's were Barely ok, but at low volumes. To my unknowledgeable ass, the Trident was designed to be a blend of the Recto and a Mark series, and did neither one exceptionally well...Has its own sound, imho... Just my take... anyway, that amps gotta breathe...
Im gettin the eminence combinations, but which one(s) did you love/hate? Historically I find that there are certain amp/speaker combinations that work for certain reasons, upto and including the fkn wood the cabs desingned from, can make a diff... that's why we all try to define what works an what doesnt, IMHO... am I making sense? The Amp you choose to demo is just as specific and important as the Speakers u use .... THEY are not Really interchangeable.... IMHO....
As each guitar, or in this case, Amp, has potentially a unique and different sound, I think its about defining the amp, or speaker you have, working from zero, and finding the correct match for the best possible sound you can get...
