My Favorite VH Tone

I like them all.......................... but not equally and for completely different reasons.........:2thumbsup:

My favorites in order are.... VH1, WACF, VHII, Fair Warning, 1984, Diver Down, 5150, Balance, OU812, FUCK, and last but not least VHIII which has some great late era drier Ed tones.

Initially I hated Eds's 5150 and Balance tones at first because I was still wanting VH1 amp tones out of Ed but I grew to appreciate the MAD Genius that was Ed constantly moving on from one iconic tone to the next..........Ya gotta admit it kept us all going WTF is he gonna do next.... on each and every album.........:rock:

Love them all but one of my faves is the 1994 Balance thru 1996 Humans Being, Me Wise Magic, Can’t Get This Stuff tone. He was killing it playing wise at that time. The solo and outro to MWM …duuude

i agree. someone posted this vid a while back and i was instantly in love

Yep. Amsterdam is ballin

Love all early Marshall EVH tones,
But my all time fav EVH is Fair Warning, Mean Street, Sinners Swing, Dirty Movies…
the whole album is my desert island for sure.
Agreed. It would be the album if I had to pick one only for the rest of my life. And its deserted island not desert island :D

FW has so much drop-D, dark sounding, coke-fueled anger.

:rawk:
Exactly

a few weeks ago i listened to Women and Children First in it entirety front to back,

and was totally reminded of that powerhouse record and how great a band they were at that point.

maybe after II and the pop direction of Women In Love, Beautiful Girls, Dance the Night Away, etc
they wanted to go back to their heavier roots—-prime shades of the Who, Led Zep for sure.

Eddie’s phrasing in this period always seemed to me like he was influenced greatly by his dad’s clarinet playing. it almost has a dixieland ragtime swing in his bends and note choice during solos. Big Bad Bill on Diver Down really drove that point home.

the later eventide tone era stuff like poundcake, black and blue, how many say I is like a sad trombone parody by contrast imo. EVH seemed to be phoning in solos by that era.
