Nope, like 232cap said, you just plug in and play. Additionally, there is not even a standby switch. You flip the switch and start to shred. :)

I don't use standby switches anyway.
 
Hoping the July 28th date of receiving them in stock is correct..if so mine should ship Monday the 29th..I hate waiting on back ordered gear but I am holding out for this one.

Ok, so given the FX loop works with the XLR out for recording......does that mean I could hypothetically go from another amp’s FX loop out to the FX in of the JJ Jr.....this taking advantage of its direct recording abilities?

Obviously I know I’ll be losing the power amp tone of the amp I’m going FX out of.

Oh man, I didn't think about that! Hmmm, this would be an interesting Dave question. I'm thinking out loud here so this might not make sense but would the amp tones of the other amp go into the Friedman or just the effects plugged into that FX Loop? That might be a common sense type thing but I'm hungover and not thinking straight. LOL.

I can't remember if an amp's preamp, gets included in a loop chain.
 
I believe it does, bc people back in the day would use the loop send to track direct with impulses. Not sure it works with every amp, but it would be an awesome plus if it worked with this amp.
 
It depends on the amp. Case by case from my experience.

But for your question I do not have an answer ?.
